A Year In The Life: a new beginning

The new parents pulled their car into the long seashell drive way. It was their first time out of their home just after two weeks after their little girl was born. They didn't welcome many visitors for some time due to exposure and keeping her safe until she built up some immunity.

"I can't believe we agreed to this, I could've pulled the postpartum card"

"Ace you should happy she wants to spend time with you, my grandmother didn't quite like us" he looked into the back seat

"Plus if we don't come here she'll come to us" he said smiling and looked back at her

"I'll get her and you get the bags?" She questioned and he nodded in agreement as she stepped out the car seeing the familiar tan jeep parked infront of them

She'd received millions of texts of when they'd arrived and how she was leaving her mother and Luke stranded

Rory opened the car door to see her sleeping small baby "hi honey" she whispered and lifted her snuggly body out from the car seat

She fussed and Rory rocked her "I know, oh I know it's far too early" she shut the car door and walked towards the front as the summer sun shined down on them

It was the beginning of July, the 4th just the last week passing. But they were adjusting to their new life and didn't do much for the holiday. It was the first time really leaving the house besides walks around the neighborhood in her stroller

She rang the doorbell and it opened within seconds to Lorelai "oh hi mom"

"Rory" she smiled "you're here!" She said relieved and looked to Lila reaching her "give me my grandbaby!" She smiled

Rory handed her Lila as Logan followed behind with bags "is there anything left in the car?"

"The gift" Logan said

"Gifts? Why is there gifts?" Lorelai questioned

"Hostess gifts" Logan replied and Lorelai grimaced "was I supposed to do that?"

"You being here is enough" Rory replied "she might make one snarky comment" Rory whispered and they entered the house

"Rory, Logan?" They heard Emily call while walking back from the lawn taking off her sunglasses

"Oh welcome, welcome" she smiled gracefully as she walked in and looked to see Lila in Lorelais arms "oh she is the most adorable baby" Emily gushed staring at her then turned to Rory

She took Rory in for a hug and then Logan and Logan handed her the wrapped gift "oh a gift" she smiled "how thoughtful" she said glaring at Lorelai "the journey must not have been easy, especially traffic getting here and a new born"

"It's family week" Rory smiled "we made you a promise" Emily smiled and took Rory in for another hug

"Thank you" she whispered and stepped back "your grandfather would've loved this" she looked to Lila "and you" she snatched Lila from Lorelais arms rocking her

"Hey"

"Lorelai I only have so many years left, you are 48" Emily snapped quickly while walking towards the den

Lorelai rolled her eyes as Emily walked away and she looked at them "you guys have the biggest guest room at the other end of the house, the one I usually take"

"Well would you rather hear her screaming at 3 in the morning?" Rory questioned

"Your right" Rory nodded and grabbed a trunk taking it down the hall directing Logan to the room to place their stuff down
