Chapter 9
The broken
After dinner, Michael and I go back up to his room to spend some time together away from everyone else.
"So what do you wanna do?" Michael asks but I just shrug my shoulders.
"I'm not sure. I'm fine just talking to you." I smile and let out a small laugh.
Michael smiles and wraps his arms around me, resting his chin on my head.
"How about I go grab us both a few drinks from the cellar? How does that sound?" He asks.
"That would be great. I'll go get them though. You've already done enough for me Michael." I smile.
He raises his eyebrow as if to say 'you sure?' So I just nod my head in response.
I laugh, making my way downstairs with a smile etched onto my face. That boy has no idea about the affect he has on me.
I open the cellar door and grab a torch since it's too dark to see. Not a single bit of light happens to be in the cellar.
I make my way down the creaky steps, trying not to fall. It's not like I've never been down here before.
I look around, finally spotting the fizzy drinks in the corner shelf. I walk over to it, taking one off the shelf.
But in the corner of the room, I spot a familiar golden springlock suit. Why would this even be here? Surely it should have been destroyed after what happened that the family diner.
Suddenly, a loud bang scares the living daylight out of me and I drop the glass bottle which causes it to smash all over the floor.
The door to the cellar is shut and someone is standing in the doorway. When I shine my torch at the person, I see William stood with his hands behind his back.
"Crap, you scared the hell out of me." I let out a short lived laugh but stop when I notice that William isn't laughing with me.
"You shouldn't have come back here Y/N. You should have stayed with Henry." William says through gritted teeth, slowly walking towards me.
"What? What are you talking about. What's going on?" I ask, my voice quivering slightly.
William slowly pulls out a knife, holding it towards me as I'm backed into a corner.
"Your father is the reason my son died! I'm just giving him what he deserves."
When I can't go any further, William raises the knife above me, a large smirk on his face with a crazed look.
Before he gets to strike, the cellar door opens and Michael walks down the stairs.
"Y/N? Sorry you were taking too long. I thought you got locked in or something." Michael laughs but looks confused when he sees his father.
Before he even got a chance to see, William hides the knife and turns to his son.
"Dad? What-"
"Oh! Y/N couldn't find where the drinks were so I was just giving them a bit of help. You have them now though don't you Y/N?" William turns to me with a threatening glare.
I nod my head, completely unable to speak.
"Okay...? Come- wait. Dad, I thought you said you got rid of that thing." Michael stares at the rabbit springlock suit in disgust.
"Well I was going to but I'm keeping it for now. It may come to be of use at some point." William smiles at his son who seems to be a bit pissed but doesn't show it.
"Fine. Come on Y/N." Michael smiles, holding out his arm for me to take.
When I walk by William, he gives me a fierce glare which is obviously wanring me to keep my mouth shut about what just happened.
"Are you alright Y/N? You look as if you've just seen a ghost." Michael laughs and I just nod, forcing a smile onto my lips.
I turn back to William who is still glaring my way.
"Yeah. I'm fine. I just- I saw the suit and remembered... you know..." I half lie.
Michael looks convinced, giving me a small but sad nod. I feel awful for not telling the truth. But if I did, he would probably think I was crazy.
"Hey, it's okay. Nothing that's happened is your fault." Michael tries to comfort me.
His soothing voice usually helps me to calm down. But this time, I feel that nothing will help.
I just witnessed his father try to kill me. Or what seems like he wanted to at least.
"I know. Let's not think about that right now. I never want to re-live that moment ever again." I say, getting a shiver down my spine.
To Michael, it seems like I am talking about how Evan was killed. But to me, all I can think about is how William clearly wanted me dead just a few minutes ago.
