Chapter 25
Date night
It feels strange, not having to get ready for my night job. I've gotten used to it the last few days but I'm not exactly complaining.
Instead, I'm now getting ready for my date night with Michael.
I can't deny that I'm nervous. Of course I am. I've liked Michael for the longest time, even if we did spend 5 years apart. It's not every day that the guy you like asks you out.
Once I'm fully dressed, I look out of the window to check if he has arrived yet.
When I don't see a car outside, I sigh, sitting on the sofa.
I take a few deep breaths to try to calm myself but that doesn't stop the wild butterflies flying around in my chest.
"Come on Y/N, you have to stop." I say to myself. After all, I've never been this nervous around him before.
A gently knock on the door pulls me out of my own thoughts. I rush towards the door with excitement but take a deep breath before I open it.
However, when I do open the door, I see a very smartly dressed Michael with a single flower in hand. My favorite flower.
"Hey." I smile, blushing a little bit from just the sight of him.
"Hi. You look absolutely gorgeous Y/N. Just as beautiful as ever." Michael gives me a shy smile, kissing my hand and then holds out the flower.
I take the flower, placing it in the vase on the table next to the door.
"You don't look so bad yourself." I smile at him.
He kisses my cheek which makes my cheeks heat up a lot. He used to do this a lot when we were younger but now it's different. It feels... nice.
"So where are we heading?" I ask as I lock my front door, following Michael to his car.
"Well... I guess you'll just have to find out." He teases me which makes me roll my eyes.
I've never been fond of surprises but maybe that's because every surprise I've ever had was a bad one.
Michael drives towards our destination as I look out the window. A few times, I find myself glancing over at Michael. I must say, he is very attractive. Not that he wasn't before but he has definitely grown into his looks.
"Okay, close your eyes." Michael says, pulling me out of my trance.
"Why?"
"Just close them!" He laughs and I decide to play his little game by closing my eyes.
I hear him get out of the car and opening my door. He gently takes my hands, leading me somewhere.
"Where are you taking me?" I laugh as we continue our journey.
Michael doesn't respond and continues to lead me for another minute or so.
Until we come to a stop.
"Okay, you can open your eyes now."
I open my eyes and my jaw drops. We find ourselves standing in front of a huge oak tree full of fairy lights. Fireflies dance around the night sky.
"Michael... this is amazing!" I smile, an excited feeling taking over my body.
"Well I was hoping you'd like it. It gets even better too." He smiles, walking behind the tree where two huge swings hang down from the thick tree trunk.
He sits on the swing and pats the seat next to him.
"Come on. Just like the old days." He says with a smile.
I sit on the swing next to him and soon enough, we find ourselves in fits of laughter, seeing who can swing the highest.
The moon shines brightly ahead of us and the night time is in full swing.
We slowly stop our swinging, just sitting in a comfortable silence. This isn't the kind of date I expected but it is exactly what I wanted.
"Hey Y/N?"
I hum in response, looking at Michael who is already looking at me. He looks conflicted and at war with his own mind.
However, he slowly begins leaning in towards me and I find myself doing the same. We are only a few inches apart before Michael smiles at me.
"I should have done this a long time ago."
Our lips finally meet and I feel as if my heart explodes. I place my hand on the side of his face and deepen the kiss.
After a short moment, we pull away slowly, staring at each other with goofy smiles on our faces.
"So what does this mean then? What are we?" I ask with a slight laugh.
Michael smirks, leaning back slightly with his arms behind his head.
"Oh you know... maybe we are just friends. Maybe we are something more. Who knows." He says, trying to mess with me.
I playfully scowl at him and punch him in the arm. He acts all hurt and pouts his lips at me.
"Okay fine. I guess we must be dating after all that then." He smiles which also makes me smile.
"I guess so."
I get a fuzzy feeling in my chest knowing that I can now call Michael my boyfriend.
Today has been a good day.
Let's hope it doesn't all go down hill.
