Chapter 23 - Ria

Ria's pov:

I stared at the elder vampire that say across me. He stared at me back, lightly tapping his finger on the wooden table. He leaned back and bit his lip. "You should've informed me about these sudden attacks against our people in Australia." He said, his hands forming into fists. His eyes flashed between brown and a bloody red. I could feel his anger from a distance. "Even if you knew earlier, there could've been nothing done to protect those people." I told him, leaning back against my hair.

"Ria, there are several things we could've done!" He stood up, his face filled with frustration. He slowly walked towards the window, as I watched
as his dark skin glistening under the moonlight.

"Yet you still didn't tell me.. Why is that, Ria?" Andre asked, facing me. He slowly made his way towards me, looking down at me. "Don't tell me you're still pushing Lèon to bring his girl to you." He muttered. I sighed, covering my face with my palm.

"There was nothing we could've done, Andre." I said before standing up along him.
"And that girl.. She doesn't belong with them. We both know that!" I shouted, running my fingers through my hair. "The girl is going to end up dead and they'll be to blame!" I added, pacing back and forth. Suddenly I looked back at him, seeing his eyes flash back to their original brown color.

He crossed his arms, sighing. "That girl.. She won't end up dead. She has two loving parents and they're always with her." He told me, his voice laced with authority. "Now you need to drop it because Leon and Scarlet are completely capable of taking care of her." Andre added. "Plus Leon.. He himself is a hunter!"

I shook my head repeatedly. "No.. There's something about that girl. Yet I can't seem to place my finger on it." I said, pacing around in circles. "You have to believe me.. That girl, she's more than them. What if she's more than us.." I whispered, my heart beat increased with every breath I took. "We both know damn well that that child is only a hunter, nothing more." He said with his hands on his hips.

Only a hunter..

The day that girl was born.. I held her small frame in my arms. She was only a newborn, it was difficult to tell if she was only going to be a human.. I couldn't tell at all. However, something in me told me that she was going to be something more. Before I could test that theory.. Leon and Scarlet left the community. They supposedly "wanted a better life" since the child arrived. So ever since they left.. I was left with a thousand unanswered questions. I could've went and tracked down the girl, but there were too much things I was occupied with. To add on, I couldn't have went to see the girl by myself.. I would've needed the authority from the people who rank higher than me.. The other elders.

Even though i'm an Elder myself, they still haven't built up enough trust in me to do anything. It's fucked up in my perspective but what could I possibly do about that. They all say i'm a mess and too wild..

I slightly laughed at that, shaking my head. "For fucks sake!" I yelled, stopping my movements to look at him. "She's not only a hunter! That child is so much more! You all know that.. even if you don't want to admit so." I whispered the last part, watching him come closer. "Talk to the others before doing something unthinkable." He quietly said, taking my hands into his.

"But for now.. There are people dying out there.. our people." He mumbled. "I hear you Ria.. The gilr might be special but we're not sure and we cannot assume or do anything before speaking with the other Elders first." He mentioned again. "So from now on, you'll drop this and leave the poor child alone. And the whole family as well.." He added on. I sighed, shutting my eyes.

"But they must rejoin the community." I said, breathing heavily. "Leon made a deal with is and he-" However, before I could finish he cut me off. "Ria! They'll come by at some point. But we need to worry anout this attacks first. We have to be prepared and protect the ones who want to be here." He said. "If Leon and his family don't rejoin, then they're on their own!"
