Chapter Thirty

Surprise

"Come on, Zuko!"
I patted the bed to indicate him that he should lay down next to me.
"A-are you serious? No! I can't."
Katara ordered us to sleep, before she left us alone and since then Zuko was refusing to sleep beside me on the bed.
He wanted to sleep on the chair again like he used to do while he watched over me.
"You were the one who said we should sleep together."
"Don't say it like that! Someone could misunderstand!"
He was red like a tomato.
"Is this someone you?"
"Ren!"
His head was about to explode because of the embarrassment.
Not gonna lie, he was really cute and I couldn't stop teasing him.
"What thoughts about me do you have in your mind, Fire Lord?"
I smirked, while asking.
"I-I'm going to the bathroom!"
He shouted and ran out of the room.
I began to laugh.
"Cute.."
My laugh got slowly quieter and I looked at the stigmas on my arms.
You could see Azula's handprints on them.
"I'm ba-Hey, you're okay?"
His smile, which he came in with, dropped and he looked worried at me.
"Hmh.."
"Katara will heal them completely, you don't have to worry." He tried to cheer me up.
"She didn't want me to be by your side...that's why she kidnapped me.. so you would do things on your own ways..and we know that your ways aren't always the best ones."
I explained looking at the handprints.
"I know... Azula wanted to show me how cruel I could be. And she was right. It's running in my blood...I can't escape of this."
He looked at his feet.
"You know that your family doesn't just involve Azula and Ozai. Don't forget your uncle and your mother AND your great grandfather who was the former avatar."
I reminded him.
"Still-"
"You're Zuko! You're a good person and I will always remind you that. Don't make me angry!"
He chuckled quietly.
"I'm sorry."
"Now jump on the bed, we're going to get some sleep together!"
I ordered him.
He backed up.
"I'm going to cry."
Now I threatened him.
His eyes got bigger and he nervously approached the bed.
I sighed, as I grab him by his hand and pulled him faster on the bed.
"Ren!"
He nagged, but I ignored him and covered him with the blanket.
"Now, sleep."
I clinged on to him and closed my eyes.
But it was hard to sleep immediately because of his heartbeat.
"Are you okay?" I opened my eyes again, just to see him covering his face while trying to breath normally.
"It's just..You're making me nervous.."
"You're loving me that much?"
I asked while smiling.
"I would die for you."he looked down at me with a serious face.
I gulped, feeling a little bit hot right now.
"And at the temple..I wasn't jealous of Mai. I was..I was observing them so I could know more about a relationship..because I want to do the same things to you..." he admitted.
I didn't expect that kind of an explanation, so I looked at him with big eyes.
"You want to call me babe and other stuff?"
He got red again and looked away.
"You're so cute, babe." I teased him.
"Please, stop."
"Why? Don't you like it, babe?"
"That's the reason! I like it too much."
I giggled at his reaction.
"You know what, you never asked me out."
"Did I have to? I thought after the kiss-"
He began to panic so I have to laugh.
"I was just joking."
"Ren, I love you. Could I be your boyfriend?"
"Give me some time."
"Ren."
I laughed and said,
"I love you too."

Three weeks later

"Welcome back lady Ren."
A guard opened the door of the carriage for me.
"Thank you."
I said, as he helped me out.
"We expected your coming for tomorrow. I think we have misunderstood something, we're really sorry." He apologized and bowed with the other guards.
"No, please." I request them not to bow.
"You understood it right. I told the Fire Lord I would come tomorrow, but that's was a lie because I wanted to surprise him a day before." I explained him.
"So we shouldn't inform the Fire Lord?" The guard asked me confused.
"No. Could you tell me where he is?"
"In the garden! He's preparing it for our lady."
Another guard said with a smile.
"Thank you. You don't have to escort me."
I told them, as I started to go to the garden.
The garden was a a little bit far away from the palace door so I had to walk a bit.
But when I arrived at the entrance, my eyes caught a Zuko, who was planting something, while ordering others what to do.
His knees were on the ground, his hand full of dirt, sweat were dropping from his forehead and he still managed to look good in this kind of situation.
"No! Not there!"
He shouted at the gardeners.
"You should calm down, it's bad for your health."
I said, as I approached him.
"But everything must be perfekt when Ren comes tomo-"
He stopped and slowly turned around.
"REN!"
He shouted perplex.
Everybody stoped what they were doing and looked at me now.
"But you were supposed to come tomorrow!"
Zuko stood up.
"Surprise!"
I shouted with a smile but he didn't seemed to be happy about it.
"Nothing is finished! The garden, your room, the food!"
He began to panic.
"You're not happy to see me? Should I go back to the South Pole?" I asked with a raised eyebrow, while crossing my arms in-front of me.
"No!"
He immediately refused.
"I'm really happy! I want to hug you, but I'm dirty right now..." he sulked a bit.
With a sigh, I took him in a hug.
"Ren, no! You're going to get all dirty!"
"It's fine."
Zuko gave in and hugged me tightly now.
"I missed you." He whispered in my ear, which caused me goose bumps.
"I missed you too."
"Did you? I could swear you had fun being with the others and completely forgot about me, because you never came visiting me like you promised."
He complained, while putting a distance between us but he was still holding me by my arms.
I smiled nervously.
"I wrote you letters.. I really couldn't come because Katara insisted to heal me."
"Hmh. You know, Aang also sent me letters, in which he wrote how you guys were having fun sliding penguins and other stuff. What a coincidence, ha?"
I gulped.
Aang! Why are you doing this to me? Am I your enemy? Did I ever do something against you?
"I'm so exhausted." I tried to change the topic.
"Probably because of the penguin sliding."
Now I sighed.
"Okay! We were having some fun but Katara really insisted me to stay. She said the progress would be faster if I don't pass the healing on weekends! You can ask her! I just wanted to come back earlier! And Aang and Sokka tried to cheer me up, so I could forget about the traumatic experience that I had."
His face softened and he caressed my cheeks.
"And how are you feeling?"
"Better, look!"
I showed him proudly my arms, which were completely healed.
"My wings are also fine. Katara is really the be-!"
He cut me off by hugging me again.
"I'm really thankful."
"Should we go inside?"
I whispered, when I felt everybody's stare on us.
He took my hand and left the garden to enter a unfamiliar room. It was big. Bigger than my room in the palace. A whole family could live here. He lead me to the bed.
I was confused but I sat down.
"I'm going to shower. Can you wait here?"
He let go of my hand and opened a wardrobe.
This was his room. Pretty suitable for a Fire Lord. Wait did he say shower?!
"I could-you know- I-should wait in my room." I stuttered, while blushing.
He turned back to me with a grin on his face.
"Are you flustered right now?"
"No, I'm not!"
"Okay, okay. But your room isn't prepared yet. So you have to wait here. You can shower after me. I will let the maids know so they can help you."
My head was getting hotter and hotter.
"I can shower myself."
He nodded and went to another room, which was also in this room. Probably the bathroom.
He showed his head out from the door.
"Don't peek. I know what you're thinking."
I gasped.
"I'm not!" I shouted and threw a pillow at him, but he laughed and went back in. This weirdo!
