Intermission "..I need your help." —————————-
"With?" She asks.
"What do you mean 'with?' With sneaking out of course. I'm pretty sure Mama and Papi are still awake. And I think Isabela and Abuela are too.."
"And you have to be extra quiet to not wake Dolores up.." she finishes.
"Yes. So help."
She crosses her arms. "Well I dunno primoooo, what's in it for me?"
I roll my eyes. Of course she would ask that. "I'll do all your chores for a week."
"Make it two months."
"What- no."
"A month. Nothing less."
She raises her brow temptingly.
"How about two-" I start.
"Nothing. Less." She says with a glare.
I groan, rubbing my face, and give in. "Fine. A month."
Her serious face immediately changed into one with joy. "Good. I'll go distract everyone, you sneak out the back door."
"Sounds good."
We both stand up, shaking hands to seal our deal, again, another thing we made up as kids but kept around.
Mirabel left and went to wherever she had planned to go. I stayed in my room for a couple of minutes so nothing would seem too suspicious.
Alas, when I thought the coast was clear, I carefully opened my room door. Extremely slowly. It made no noise, which I was thankful for.
I tip-toed down the stairs, avoiding each step that I knew would creak. I peaked over the railings. Mirabel was in the kitchen with everyone else, eating a snack. We made eye contact for a split second and she winked.
Suddenly, it began. She starts thumping her fist on her chest, coughing dramatically. The adults looked at her with worry. "Mirabel are you okay?" "Honey, you good?" "She's fine.."
Mirabel coughs louder as she 'rushes' to get to the trash can, but instead runs into Isabela and coughs out all the food she chewed on her.
"You've got to be kidding me?!" Isabela yells.
Everyone rushes to her, as expected.
I take this as my cue to slip out while everyone was focused on her. I couldn't help but laugh a bit as I did so.
I left quietly. Nobody had seemed to notice. And so, I ran across the village.

There it was, her casa.
There was a window open with light shining out of it. A silhouette of her stood at the window.
"Woah.."
I couldn't help but feel entranced. The moonlight seemed to have hit her face directly, and it made her shine. Literally. I couldn't look away. But I knew I had to. I had to go and talk to her.
And so I do. I move quietly.
As I get closer to the window, I hear a voice. Her voice.
"Ay, Camilo.. out of all families in town, why, just why do you have to be a Madrigal? A Madrigal? Out of everyone in town.. I just had to fall for a Madrigal."
Did I hear that right? Fell? For me??
My heart thumped from inside my chest and I swear, I could basically hear it ringing in my ears.
"You.. fell for me?" I let out. ——————
