Luciano made sure I finished the entire bowl. When I did, he started drinking his champagne and got lost in discussion with everyone else. It was clear they were pretty fazed about what just happened, and part of me didn't understand why. But then it sank in that nobody would have expected something so average from Luciano.

Where he was my bossy ex brother-in-law, everyone else saw him as a cold and merciless capo. It was what I saw him as when we first met.

Whichever place he went, his presence was the only one that mattered there. Dark and commanding, making everyones spines stiffen with awareness. Luciano stood out against a crowd, tall and undeniably dangerous. Nobody dared to look at him, except for when he gave me the tiniest bit of attention. Then it was like I was part of a zoo.

While Luciano talked at the table, me and Adriana had slipped away to check out the chocolate fountain. I guaranteed I'd get some on my dress or even on the silk Cinderella gloves I wore, but I needed something sweet.

I covered a strawberry in chocolate and slipped it into my mouth, looking at the orange sky. The sun was starting to set already.

"What was that about, earlier on?"

"What?"

Adi chewed on her grape. "Him feeding you?"

"Oh." Here it comes again, those goddamn butterflies. "I don't know. I guess he just wanted to make sure I wouldn't pass out."

She raised a brow, and then looked at Luciano. We both knew he didn't give a damn about that. Luciano carried too much evilness to care about anyone.

Thankfully we moved on from the subject of Luciano when two people walked in through the entrance. "What the-"

"Is that....Elena Ricci?

"Mmhmm."

Adi shoved another grape into her mouth. "And who was going to tell me she was married to Cristian. El Cupo Mietitore Cristian? (The grim reaper)?"

"I thought you already knew. They must be here from their honeymoon."

Elena was our boss's daughter. Her father was the one who controlled most of the New York mob, and my Nonno worked for him. She had definitely changed, and had bagged a hitman too - or more like he bagged her.

I attended her wedding, and she looked pissed all day. I was about to say I'd feel the same if I was trapped in a marriage contract too, but then I realised I was living the same fate as her. Except unlike her, my husband didn't want me. He detested me.

The couple walked through the tables and sat down. Adi's mouth was still open, I couldn't blame her. Her husband was incredibly tall and handsome, and had such a strong presence that made everyone turn to stare. Mama was looking too.

After everyone finished eating, me and Adi were still by the fountain when Luciano signalled for me to go to him.

Like he was my lord and master, I had no choice but to obey. He was talking to a couple and immediately held my waist when I stopped in front of Cristian and Elena.

My eyes met with hers, and a smile formed on my face. "Elena, beautiful as always."

Her eyes lit up at my words and she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. "You're too sweet. Congratulations by the way."

"Thanks." I replied. Luciano's palm was warm against my hip, and his cologne was all I could smell now. It almost made me forget what I was saying.

Through smooth music, warm lights and on lush grass, Me and Elena caught up with each other. The men did the same, or so I assumed.
