"It's...my dad."

Nini's pov

"Are you gonna answer it?", EJ asks, "Don't feel pressured-"

I nod, "I'll answer it..."

I press on the green button lit up on my screen and hold the phone to my ear. The other side of the line was silent.

"D-dad?", I croak out.

"Nini...", I hear his familiar voice echo.

"H-hi...where'd...where'd you go? Why- why'd you leave after m-mom was killed?!", I question, beginning to feel nervous and angry.

"Don't worry about that sweetheart...just know I'm safe and mom is in a better place now. I need you to do something for me.", he slowly talks. His voice was quiet and groggy.

"What is it? And you don't sound too hot- are you sure you're fine?", I reply.

"Yes, I promise. I need you to attend the party the mayor is throwing...and I need you to go to a room on the second floor...it's the second door to the left. It's a red door. Knock three times in a row so I'll know it's you.", he explains.

"W-what? Why?", I ask.

"We need to talk about something. Your friends can't know and they can't come with you. You need to be alone Neens..."

My breathing was becoming unsteady now. My heart was racing faster and faster with every moment. My hands were sweaty and I couldn't help but become frightened with what he's asking me to do.

"Please Nini...", he pleads.

I suck in a breath, "O-okay...sounds uh sounds good."

Ricky's pov

We all watch, anxiously, as the call hangs up and Nini sets her phone back down on the table. She lifts her eyes to look at us and her expression is unreadable.

"So...", Gina begins.

"What did he say?", EJ asks.

Nini clears her throat, "Uh- nothing important. He just told me he has to um...be someplace else for now. And he uh- he was just checking up on me."

I narrow my eyes as I watch her explain. It was weird...I felt like I could sense her nervousness and anxiety. Her body language just screamed the fact she was scared.

I didn't say anything though because I didn't want to start an argument or push her to talk.

"You know I uh- I think I will go to the party tomorrow.", she mentions.

We all smile and nod our heads before we continue to research.

Gina's pov

It's around 5pm now and EJ, Ricky, and I are still at my house doing research. Nini said she was going to go to the mall to do some shopping for the party tomorrow so she left around 2.

"Guys- I found something else about the werewolves.", Ricky says.

"What is it?", both EJ and I reply at the same time.

"Apparently...'current' day werewolves would have a reaction to paprika...", he informs.

"The spice? That's- interesting", EJ chuckles.
