just wanna say- i'm sorry that these chapters r kinda short-

BUT ANYWAYS ENJOYYY

"Elizabeth...make sure all the doors are locked. Lock the bedroom door that Nini and Ricky are in...and close the curtains. Use the gloves and put the silver door handle on their bedroom door too."

Ricky's pov

Nini and I's heads shoot up at the sound of someone barging into the bedroom. My eyes narrow in confusion and my brows scrunch up as I watch Elizabeth rush through the room, closing the curtains and practically barricading the window.

I slip out from under Nini, running up to Elizabeth before she can exit the room. I grab her wrist and look at her.

"What's going on?!", I exclaim.

She's breathing heavy, "The Mayor is here...and we don't think he's alone."

My heart sinks and my mind instantly goes to Nini.

"We're going to protect you two, okay? This door is going to be locked...and we're putting a silver door handle on. He has hybrids working for him too.", she says.

"Don't worry about me. Make sure you protect Nini first.", I tell her as she shuts the door. I hear rustling on the other side before a click and I assume the door was now locked.

I walk back towards the bed and see Nini propped up. Her face held fear.

"What's happening?", she queries.

"The Mayor...he's here.", I slowly and hesitantly say.

Her face seemed to go pale and her eyes went wide.

"I-I can't fight him. I'm not- I'm not strong enough—"

"Neens...you don't have to fight anyone. They're protecting us...and I'm protecting you.", I tell her.

She bites her lip and stays silent. It was now nighttime and I felt like my eyes were getting heavy. I slide into the bed, sitting next to her. I notice her come closer to me and she rests her head on my shoulder while we both just stare forward.

"Ricky?"

"Yeah?"

"Thank you", she says, "For staying with me and uh- protecting me."

"It's no problem Nini...you already know why I'm doing it.", I respond.

"Why?", she asks and I could hear her small and quiet giggle.

"You just want me to say it, huh?", I reply in a sarcastic tone.

"Maybe...", she whispers and by now I've noticed that she was drawing shapes on the back of my hand.

I take in a breath, "Because I love you."

She stops tracing shapes on my hand and looks up. Our eyes meet and a small, sweet smile shows on her face.
