Chapter 3: Warning
Taeyong woke up to the loud sound of his alarm clock. He groaned as he reached over and turned off the annoying sound. He really wished he could call in and stay home, he worked so late last night. But he couldn't call in because they are short on employees.
Yuta, Ten, and Kai quit last week but rumor has it that the mob boss took them. Doyoung, the dancer's manager, had to talk with the club owner. The owner had to switch Taemin's job so he has to be a part time waiter and part time dancer every other day. Taeyong felt bad for the older, Taemin was already getting poor sleep and the new schedule wasn't helping.
Taeyong managed to pry himself off the comfy bed and towards his closet. He didn't really pay attention to the clothes he grabbed, he just shoved a fist full of clothes into his duffle bag. If he needed anything he would just borrow from someone else. He threw on some slides, grabbed a bagel, and shoved his apartment keys into his hoodie pocket.
Taeyong took a city bus to the club. He knew the passengers eyed him as he got off and entered the club, they always did. The bus driver already knew, he stopped staring at him after a couple months of driving the scrawny male to the club.
The moment he opened the front door, he could smell the mixture of alcohol and cologne. There were 3 men watching Jimin pole dance at a table, the stage was empty except for a shirtless Johnny doing what he gets paid to do. There was only one other guy at the bar so drunk he had passed out on the LED tabletop. Matthew was cleaning a drinking glass when Taeyong walked up to him.
"Hey little man! I'm surprised you're here today after how late you were working," Matthew said, setting the glass down.
Matthew knew everyone's schedule. Him and Johnny were there almost 24/7. Taeyong still doesn't know how they can do it but they pull it off just fine.
"I don't have much of a choice, you know that. Is that a new tattoo?" Taeyong pointed at the words on his skin.
"Yeah I did. Says 'For without struggle, there's no progress.' You already can tell why I got it," Matthew replied.
Taeyong knew a lot about Matthew, he was friendly enough to share his own story. He had lived in LA as a kid but his parents sold him to the club owner when he was 17. Apparently they needed money for their own business and they didn't care about Matthew. Taeyong always found it sad. Matthew was a really buff guy, he worked out a lot to cope with his emotions. Matthew even took Wonho to workout with him. Taeyong had to admit, he admired their strong builds a lot but he didn't think he could pull it off so he stuck to his dance workouts.
"I should get ready. You know what to do," Taeyong walked to the back hallway where only staff was allowed.
He went through the pink door and the scent of hairspray filtered through the air. Dancers, strippers, and waiters were either changing or fixing their makeup while Doyoung yelled out everyone's schedule.
"Hurry up Taeyong, you're on in 3," Doyoung informed him with a loud shout.
Taeyong set his duffle on the counter and rifled through it for his outfit. He ended up with a black tie, black leather pants, and a tube of glitter for his exposed torso. It was a good day for black actually because he ended up matching with Wonho's outfit. He also wore black leather pants but his accessories were a black choker leash. Taeyong noticed that Wonho's once blonde hair was dyed to a fresh black. It felt so edgy and how it contrasted with his own fluffy pink hair.
Before Taeyong did his makeup, he walked back down the hall to the bar. Just as always, Matthew provided a shot of an alcohol mixture he created himself. Taeyong gulped the burning liquid and ran back to the room.
He pulled out his makeup bag and took out the first eyeshadow palette he touched. Taeyong added some sparkly pink eyeshadow and noticed he didn't have any lipstick.
"Hey Sannie? Can I borrow your pink lipstick?" Taeyong asked the younger. He knew that San always carried extra makeup.
"Sure," San said as he stood up from his chair. He opened his locker and grabbed the tube of pink lipstick.
"Thank you Sannie," Taeyong gave him a large smile as he returned to his mirror.
The moment Taeyong put the cap on the tube Doyoung was hollering at him and Wonho to take the stage. He stepped up the stairs and stood behind the curtain next to Wonho.
"Let's get this," Wonho always said something before they got on stage and did a fist bump.
Taeyong could hear their stage names announced and the few clients cheering. He felt the bass change as Johnny switched the songs up and in a matter of seconds, the curtain moved to reveal the 2 dancers.
Taeyong's torso glistened and gleamed under the strobe lights as he strutted to the middle of the stage. Wads of cash filled big fists and littered the stage. Rough hands gripped and tugged at Taeyong's pants in an attempt to either fill it with money or to touch him in hopes they didn't get caught. When a hand slipped a little too far, Taeyong pulled himself away from the desperate hands and towards the middle of the stage.
He looked over to see how Wonho was doing and he was doing just fine. He was grinding on the stage as men tugged on his leash and shoved money down his ass.
He decided to change his focus over to Johnny. He was more focused on the DJ pad. Taeyong knew he didn't like to see the men touching them so he always tried to keep his focus on djing.
Taeyong swung himself around the metal pole and turned to look at the bar. He was a little taken aback when Matthew was already looking at him. When they met eyes, Matthew nodded his head in the left direction towards the end of the bar. Taeyong made a small gasp as he made out the hunched over figure.
When it was time for them to switch places with other dancers, Taeyong made a beeline for the bar. More specifically, towards the unexpected guest.
"Kai, what the fuck are you doing here?" Taeyong asked with gritted teeth.
Since Kai is a past employee, he's technically not allowed back in the club. The club doesn't really have bouncers. There's just this one guy who stands near the entrance on the inside. He always wore black shades and kept the same position. Taeyong was starting to doubt the man was even alive.
"Listen Bubu, I came here to warn you. I really shouldn't be here, I'm risking a lot for this," Kai said, stealing sneaky glances around the club.
"Kai i'm fine and you're right, you really shouldn't be here," Taeyong was growing anxious.
"No Taeyong, I mean it. Don't come to work tomorrow, you'll be in danger. You don't understand. If someone sees that I'm here," Kai took a deep breath as he lowered his head.
"I'm risking my life coming here and warning you. If I get caught, something bad could happen to both of us. You understand?" Kai said with a serious tone. Taeyong only heard Kai talk seriously when he said he was going to quit, but even then he didn't sound so scared.
"Ok Kai, I understand. You should leave before you're seen then," Taeyong looked into Kai's eyes, only just now noticing the purpling bruise on his right eye.
"Goodbye Bubu," Kai said, embracing the smaller. After that, Kai fled through the door as fast as he could and Taeyong went back to the changing room.
