I used to hate going to sleep when I was younger

I used to hate going to sleep when I was younger. Although I loved the peace of the darkness, I also hated it.

I would dream of impossible realities that would never be lived, except one.

To be free.

But now, I don't feel so free.

I sit up in my bed, Bellamy's arm falling off of my waist as he sleeps. I glance towards the small window and sigh when I see that it's still dark out.

I stand and get dressed. I grab my sword and belongings and leave the room.

I head towards the guards' training quarters, but pause when I see a familiar figure punching a punching bag.

My eyebrows furrow as I continue walking. "Miloch?" I ask, causing him to pause and turn to face me.

"Hey." He says, breathing hard. "Figured I'd see you sooner or later." He says, turning back to the punching bag.

I set my stuff down and walk over to him. I brace myself against the bag as he lands punches.

"Did you know about Riv?" I ask, my voice neutral.

He lands a punch, "No, she doesn't go by Riv anymore." He says.

Another punch. "What does she go by?"

He pauses. "Cora." He says and my lips part.

"That was our mother's name." I murmur. "Are you sure that's what she goes by?" I ask, my eyes narrowing.

He leans back to look me in the eyes. "She goes by Cora kom Hedakru, which translates to Cora of Heda's people, or more rather, her guard." He turns and grabs a sweat towel.

I step back from the punching bag. "I know you're still mad at her." He says, not looking at me. "I also know you're still blaming yourself for Finn."

I suck my teeth, not wanting to answer. "So?" I say, my voice biting.

I see his shoulders shake, meaning he's chuckling. "Nothing." He says, turning and looking at me. "Want to get out some of that frustration?" He asks, smirking.

My lips lift into a smile. "Of course I do." I say, stripping off my shirt so i'm in a sports bra.

He lifts his hands, awaiting my first move. I swing my fist at his face, but he swerved out of the way. He goes to land at kick at my torso, but instead, I grab his foot and slam my hand onto his kneecap. His other leg bends as he groans in pain.

I drop his foot, thinking he's done, but he immediately grabs my shoulder and puts me in a choke hold. I respond by crouching and flipping him over me.

I don't let go of him, though, I land on his chest, my foot on his leg and his hands pinned above his head.

He smirks, "You're getting good at this." He says, before his lifts up his free foot and pushes me off of him.

We go back and forth a couple times, pinning each other until we're interrupted.

"Someone's here to see you." Bellamy says as he enters.

I nod breathlessly as he hands me a sweat towel.

"Remind me to watch you do this more often," he says, his eyes tracing my sweaty chest.

I roll my eyes and hit him with the towel. "Get your head out of your pants." I say, putting back on my shirt. "Who's here to see me?"

"Now that we have our alliance," He says as we begin walking toward the exit. "Your grounder friends are here to say hello." He tilts his head. "Well more like friend, her name is Orla?" He says, his tone questioning.

My eyes widen before I break out into a sprint. I leave the Ark and run around people. I stop when i see her.

"Hailey!" She smiles, walking over to me. "Good to see you again." She says as we grab each other's forearms.

I smile, noticing her newly braided hair. "I like your hair," I say, eyeing the intricate braids.

"Mochof," Thanks. "I could braid yours before we leave."

My eyebrows furrow. "Leave?"

"I came to get you for the coalition." She says, tilting her head. "Your Skaikru's leader, correct?"

I open and close my mouth like a fish. "I...No, I'm not."

Her eyebrows furrow. "Then, who is because the commander is expecting you and people of your choosing."

I shake my head, "No, but I'll come." I say before nodding goodbye to her.

I walk over to Abby and repeat what Orla just told me.

"So, they are expecting you?" She asks, her tone cold. "They should know that you're not the leader of us, you're just a child."

I furrow my eyebrows. "What?" I ask, my lips turning down to a frown. "I'm not a child, Abby." I hiss, my voice lowering. "I'm 22 and experienced more painful shit that you'll ever know." I say, before turning and going into the ark.

I find Miloch along with Bellamy and Clarke. "You three, Raven, Kane and whoever else you choose are going to a dinner with the commander." I say, before turning back around and walking outside.

I walk through the gates and into the trees, not stopping until I find the tree that I climbed the day we'd come down.

"Shouldn't be that hard," I murmur to myself before I begin climbing. My muscles groan with each step I take, getting higher and higher until I finally reach the branch that I had sat on all those months ago.

I smile to myself as I look out onto the forest. I remember the laughter, the innocence, the smiles of those that have passed or are still here with me.

"What are you doing up there?" A voice yells up, breaking me out of my thoughts. I glance down and find Orla staring up at me.

I don't respond as she climbs up the tree to me. She sits down next to me with a grunt.

"Y'know, you are stronger than you look." She says, sighing.

I chuckle lightly, nodding.

"You never answered my question." She says, turning to me.

I look over at her, pursing my lips. I look away and back out into the trees. "I don't know," I sigh. "I just don't feel like I fit in with them anymore." I roll my eyes. "I mean, they didn't want me when I was 16 and they sure as hell didn't want me when I was shipped down here, so why do they want me now?" I ask, turning to her.

She has a small smile on her face. "It's because you're something new." She says, her voice light. She turns away as she continues. "You no longer fit in with your friends because you're different." She murmurs, bringing her icy stare to mine. "You're a cold blooded killer."
