I wake up to something heavy on my stomach. I open my eyes and see Ryder lying on me. I poke his cheeks to wake him up so we don't get caught.

"Ten more minutes." He mumbles. "Ryder you don't have ten more minutes. We need to get up for school." I whisper while running my fingers through his hair.

"Mmm, that feels nice."

I can hardly understand what he's saying because his face is nuzzled into my stomach.

He won't get up so I do the last, but most useful thing.

I slap him awake.

"What the hell." He whisper shout.
"You didn't want to get up." I shrug.
"So you slapped me?" He asks.
"Um, yeah."

"Lay back down." He tells me.
"Why?"
"So I can finish my nap."

I push him on the floor and get up.
"Sophieeeeee"
"Rydeeeer"

He crosses his arms like a child and pouts.

I sigh. "Ryder, get up and get dressed. I don't want to be late." I tell him.

"Fine." I let out a breath of relief.

"But." Here we go.

"You need to give me a hug and kiss my forehead." That is typically Ryder.

When I look at him he makes grabby hands for me.

I walk over and hug him. I pull back and kiss his forehead. "Better?" I ask him. He nods his head quickly.

He gets up and puts his clothes on. He still wears worn out stuff, but when I can, I buy him things from my money.

"Alright, see you in ten minutes." He presses a kiss to my forehead and climbs out my window.

Ryder has been sleeping here since he was ten. He's still a really skinny guy and he gets bullied for it so I still want to punch the kids at school.

No one knows about him sleeping here, not even my 'best friend', Chloe.

I take a shower, put on clothes and brush my teeth. Downstairs mom is making breakfast for Johnny. I sit down just as the doorbell rings. "Sophia get the door."

"But mom I just sat down. Why can't Johnny get it?"

"He needs to eat. He has a big day today."

I sigh, but get up and open the door to see Ryder. He gives me a small smile and I let him in.
"Ryder! Come sit down I was just making breakfast. Johnny has a match today."

Ryder looks at me.

I have a ballet competition, but they forgot or just don't care about it.

"Sophia did you do your brothers project?" Mom asks. "Mom that's his job not mine."

"Sophia I told you a hundred times that he suffers with biology and he can't keep up with studying beside the football."

How unfortunate.

Ryder is pissed. "Sorry mom, I won't do it. I can't be more a disappointment than this so it doesn't matter anyway ." I smile at her.

Ry looks at me with a proud and amusement look.

"Mom I'll do it somehow, don't worry." He's such a drama queen.

Rachel, aka mom, sends me a death glare and puts food in front of his favorite kid.

"Well I'm off to school." I get up and head towards the door. "Love you mom." I whisper.

I don't say it loud because she won't say it back and it hurts less this way.

"Wait for us!" Johnny yells.
"Bye mom! I love you!
"I love you too my precious boy!"

Yep, and that's just hurts even more.

"Agh, I'm so excited. Ryder can you believe it that I'll have hundreds of managers there at the match?"

Johnny plays football and he wants to go to a college where he can still do it. To be honest, I don't think he'll get in any.

Ryder looks at him and then at me. He sees my low mood so when Johnny isn't looking he sends me a wink and a beautiful big smile to make me feel better.

I love his smile.

"Ryder will you be there today?" Johnny asks.

"I'm busy." He responds.

"With what?"

"Stuff."

Well if he's busy I won't get to hang out with him. And he's my only true friend even if others thinks we can't stand each other.

"What about you Sofia?" Johnny turns to me.

"I'm busy too." I tell him.

"You barely come to my practices and matches." He glared at me.

"At least I go." I whisper.

~
We get to school and half of the girls rush up to Johnny. He's popular and I'm not. Neither is Ryder. So the two of us continue our way down the halls

"Hey freak!" Tyler one of the jocks shouts at Ryder.

"Leave him alone you little shit." I glare at him."Oooo, miss fatty is protecting the mute freak." The others laugh.

Ryder goes to punch him but I hold him back.

"You know you will get out as the bad person, so leave it." I let go of his arm.

"I won't let him say things like this about you. And if I get in trouble maybe I don't have to attend in school."

I can't respond because a high pitched shriek comes from behind him.

"Sophia! Finally you're here." My 'best friend', Chloe says

"Um hi Chloe." I mutter under my breath.
She looks at Ryder. "Why are you with the mute freak."

"Stop calling him that." I give her a glare. She can't freaking take a hint.

The bell rings, saving me from talking to her. I simply walk away.

~

It's now lunch time and I'm in the library reading a book.

I feel arms around me and as I turn my head Ryder comes into the view.

"Hi sunshine." He offers a small smile.

"Stop saying that stupid nickname." I tell him.

"Never."

I groan.

Digging into my bag I take out his lunch I packed for him and hand it to him.

He happily start to eat, but stops when he notices I'm not eating.

Putting food on the fork he holds it in front of my mouth.

"Open."

I shake my head. "I'm not hungry."

"I said, open." He demands.

Sighing, because I know I can't convince him, I open my mouth and he puts the fork in it.

For the next ten minutes he eats and feeds me too.

The door opens and the principal comes in.

"Ryder Gray, please follow me."
