I pack up Ryder's gift in wrapping paper

I pack up Ryder's gift in wrapping paper. The chain with the little medal with the little message on it.

Together forever

It's cliche I know, but Ryder always said that and after some time I did too. When our days were rough we would cuddle in my bed and comfort each other.

Now for the ring. It's pretty simple, yet I know he will like it, or at least I hope he will.

I hear the front door open and shut then people talking. I hide the bag and go downstairs, acting like I have no idea what day it is.

My sperm donor, birth giver and, well, my brother is sitting in the living room with Ryder on the couch alone. I sit down next to him, leaving a good amount of space between us.

Johnny forces a bag into his hand and waits for his reaction. When the item is out of the bag I frown.

It's a freaking gift card saying: From the best friend ever.

Ryder nods like he's thanking him, but even I wouldn't thank this gift. My brother is a egoistic bastard.

Mom's next and she gives him a knitted sweatshirt, pink and red colored. He nods again. He doesn't get anything from dad then all of them looks at me.

Johnny gives me a death glare and I hold it. "Sophia, where's your gift for Ryder?" Mother dearest asks.

"I don't have it."

Ry's face fell, like he's disappointed and sad, but quickly covers it with a blank stare.

"Well then, we should eat cake." Birth giver cheers. She brings out a vanilla cake with freaking cherries on it.

That is not Ryder's favorite, it's Johnny's.

What the hell. It's not my brother's birthday. It's his friend's. MY friend's. Neither Ry nor I eat from the cake.

Mom wouldn't even let me, but that is not the case. She was over the moon when I said I don't want from it.

Ryder sat there silently, staring down at the floor.

"Well, happy birthday Ryder, but we need to head out and do some things." They grab their stuff and leave, not saying goodbye.

He sits there until standing up suddenly. "I should go." He mutters and walks toward the door. I stop him and pull him closer.

I pout and bath my eyelashes. "Without me?" It's hard not to laugh. I rush up to my room pull out the gifts and hide it behind my back.

I'm surprised when I find him still standing in our living room. I take his hand, lock the door and walk over to his house.

He opens the door and let's me in first. Uncle Ricky has prepared what I asked for and is sitting on one of the stools in the kitchen.

Ryder looks at the cake on the counter with a candle on it and his face lights up.
