the moment he spoke, her eyes opened.

She watched over them, of course she did.
It took some time, but ever so slowly, things began to return to normal. For most of the boys, time healed all wounds, as it usually did. She watched as they began to smile again, began to reminisce on their time with her with fondness, and not tears.
She was glad to have met them as a human, to have known them in that way. She too wanted to cherish her memories with the seven most important people in her life.
Jungkook and Taehyung only grew stronger. She could see that Jungkook still missed her terribly, and sometimes he spoke to her when he was alone; he would lie on his couch, playing video games absent-mindedly, and chat to the air, as though no one was listening.
But she heard it all, and she talked right back, even though he could not hear her replies.
The band went from strength to strength. She was there for all of it; the world tour, the new album, even the solo material, connecting them with their fans and ensuring their success in everything they did. She only hoped they could feel her presence, like a beating heart admist the crowd of adoring ARMYs.
As for Namjoon - she had one final lesson to learn about love, even in her Eternal form.
That when you truly love someone, their happiness is the most important thing.
And above all else, she wanted Namjoon to be happy.
But it wasn't until some years later, when she discovered the woman, that she really found out what this meant.
Namjoon spent a long time in a deep depression. He slept for long periods, and she watched as he threw his arm out in the night, searching for her body and coming up empty. He didn't sleep well after that, nor did he eat much, or go outside of his studio unless he had to.
She wanted desperately to go down and wrap her arms around him - arms that no longer existed. She watched as his six friends moved around him, cooking for him, looking out for him. Keeping him alive.
After a while, Namjoon began to survive every day, just a little easier. But she wanted to see him thrive.
She could see from a mile off that this woman was the one to do it. The one to bring him back to life. It was only by chance that she came across the woman, as she was a fan of Namjoon's work; she listened to it as she worked, humming away to herself as she immersed herself in her writing. Because of this, she could see right through her, to her very soul. Could see the beating heart underneath it all that could make Namjoon's beat again, too.
And so it was her that nudged Namjoon in the right direction. Her that left a copy of the woman's book right in the centre of a bookshop display, tempting Namjoon to buy it.
Her that engineered Namjoon and the woman being in exactly the same place, at exactly the same time, a few years later.
She watched on, seeing him sit beside her, turn to her and hold out his hand. Saw the look of admiration on the woman's face. The look of interest on his.
Be happy, Joonie, she whispered to him from the stars, as he introduced himself to the smiling woman, her kind eyes glowing back at the man she had had the honour of loving. Be happy for me now.
At that moment Namjoon raised his chin a little, glancing upwards, and she had a funny feeling he might have heard her, in his heart. He smiled slightly - knowingly - as though he knew exactly what she was up to in bringing him here, in placing him next to this beautiful, intelligent, kind woman, that she had found for him.
She smiled right back. He always could see right through her.
But there wasn't time for her to stick around, in the end, to see this bloom. There were fans to inspire. Stadiums to ignite. People to unite around the seven boys she held so dearly.
And so, she left the pair of them to it.
After all, there was a sea of ARMYs out there.
And she had work to do.

author's note:
You have reached the end of 'Eternal'!
Oh god, this book was a rollercoaster.
There were times when I really didn't think I was going to finish it. It is by far the longest story I've ever written, and I'm so immensely proud to have accomplished it even if I think I can improve and learn from writing it!
As for the ending... I'm sorry 😭 but I had this planned from the very beginning. Even back when Eternal was only going to be 25 chapters long, this was always the way it was going to end.
I hate sad stories though, so don't worry - my next one will be happy, I promise!
I really hope you enjoyed this work. If you did and you want to check out more work by me, please visit my profile where you will find:
