Namjoon saw Celine push the laboratory door open, and come to stand in front of him in the empty corridor.
Neither of them spoke for a moment.
"Let's go home," he murmured after a long minute of silence, linking his hand in hers.
Celine nodded, not looking at him.
It was pouring rain in Seoul. The car ride home was silent, with her sat on one side of the passengers seat and he on the other. Their hands remained connected, but they looked out of opposite windows.
Namjoon couldn't even bear to look at her. All he could do was replay the doctor's words, over and over again, like some kind of nightmarish stuck record.
A preventative, not a cure.
Destroy your human body.
Even the strongest love on Earth...
Powerless to stop it.
The thoughts played on repeat in his head, all the way home, all the way up to their bedroom, where they shut the door and sat down side-by-side, as if they were on autopilot. Still, they did not speak for a very long time.
Namjoon felt as though the rain outside on the streets of Seoul had somehow infected his body, too. As though it were raining in his head.
"Joonie," Celine whispered after a moment.
Namjoon snapped out of his thoughts, but could not turn to face her.
"I think..." she continued quietly, squeezing his hand. "I think maybe I should go back."
At this, he whipped around, eyeing her with shock. "What?"
"Dr. Lee," Celine explained, her eyes muted to a sorrowful heather. "She told me that I have to go back before the power takes over. Or else we lose it forever. You lose it forever."
Namjoon gazed at her, unable to believe what he was hearing, and yet unable to form any words to tell her so.
"I can't risk that happening, Joonie," she continued, leaning towards him, and he saw now that she was crying, and that perhaps she had been crying all this time. "I want to stay here, with you - but if that... if that can't... happen... then, I don't want it all to be for nothing."
