"Can you pass me the salt?"

Celine snapped out of her daze, reaching for the salt across the counter and handing it to Jin. He grinned at her sideways.

"Something on your mind?" he asked, as he added the salt to the kimchi jjigae the two of them were making. It was the afternoon of Yoongi's birthday, and Celine and Jin were once again tasked with the cooking.

Celine shook her head. "No, just tired is all, Jinnie," she managed a small smile.

The truth was, she was anxious as hell.

"You don't have to lie to me, you know," Jin said in a kind voice. His shoulder brushed hers where they both stood at the stove, but he didn't look at her. "I might be handsome, but I'm not just a pretty face. I know that you and Namjoon went back to the laboratory today."

Celine's heart sank, as it had done all day when she remembered their visit to the laboratory this morning. At first, she had been optimistic - Namjoon certainly was, as he smiled and squeezed her hand on the way there - but the more time they spent there, the more her hopes began to fade away.

Perhaps she was being dramatic, or pessimistic. Dr. Lee had given her no reasons to worry; in fact, after running a couple of tests on both her and Namjoon, she had smiled calmly, and told them that they should await her call in a few days' time for the next steps. To all intents and purposes, Dr. Lee just seemed like she was dealing with a routine problem in a patient that could be fixed with a round of antibiotics.

But Celine knew, deep down, that Dr. Lee - and the whole laboratory - were dealing with something they had never seen before. Regardless of her words on having multiple methods of strengthening her power, Celine wasn't convinced.

"I can't explain it, Jinnie," she whispered now. "I just have a really bad feeling."

Jin just smiled. "Well, it's only natural," he explained. "Us humans often think the worst is going to happen. But things turn out okay more often than you'd expect. Besides, you're exhausted. That's always going to make you more likely to catastrophise."

Celine contemplated Jin's words, and surprisingly, they did put her at ease a little. He was right - she was beyond tired, what with Yoongi's birthday and the stress about how she was feeling.
