Chapter 42

I didn't realize that I fell asleep with Thena beside me. I just woke up when I heard a noise coming from outside. I stretched and a smile crept across my face when I saw Thena yawning.

"Hey, there baby. How's your sleep?" I giggled when I carried her in my arms. She made a little noise. I chuckled.

What time is it? Mukhang madilim na sa labas. Nagulat ako ng tumalon si Thena mula sa mga braso ko at pumunta sa bandang malaking bintana. I opened the big curtains to see the view properly. And Thena with her little paw was resting in the glass as if she's pointing someone.

Kumunot ang noo ko at bumaba ang tingin.

Kumabog ang dibdib ko nang makita si Athaleigh na nakaupo sa ibaba. She was crossing her legs while her hands were both in her pockets. May iilan na tao na nakatambay pa rin sa ibaba.

Some of them are familiar in my face. Princeton and others are there too! Elena and some of my employees are dancing beside the pool. Marami rin ang nasa pool na malakas na nagkakantahan.

I was stunned when Leigh's gaze went up to me. Our eyes locked with each other, my heart pounds faster with her sudden look. I immediately closed the curtain and turned my back. I held my chest and took a deep breath.

What is she doing down there? Isn't she supposed to be in her suite and resting?

Biglang tumunog ang phone ko sa mesa. Dali dali ko kinuha iyon.

Atty. Athaleigh S:

It seems like you had a good sleep, I didn't disturb you anymore. If you still want to get Thena's things, you can come down here.

Oh shit! I remembered. Kukunin ko pa pala ang mga gamit ni Thena sa kanya, siguradong gutom na rin ito. Hindi ko naman kasi alam na makikita ko si Thena dito, I didn't bring any cat food or something.

I let out a sigh. I just fixed myself in the mirror before I decided to go down there. Sinama ko na rin si Thena, hindi naman siya malikot o ano. Hindi siya pumupunta sa kung saan saan, nasa tabi ko lang siya lagi kapag tuwing lumalabas kami noon.

"You look so excited to see your mama huh." Sabi ko kay Thena habang nasa elevator kami. She just made a sound again and rubbed her tail against my leg. I rolled my eyes.

"Ngayon lang tayo nagkasama, hinahanap mo na agad siya." Nagtatampo na saad ko. Hindi niya ako pinansin. Nauna pa siya lumabas sa elevator para makapunta sa lugar ni Leigh.

Napailing na lang ako at natawa.

Pagpunta ko sa tapat ng building ay nakita ko ang mga tao na nagkakantahan. Ang iba ay nakababad sa swimming pool at nagkwekwentuhan.

Namataan ko si Leigh na nakaupo sa bandang malayo, nakasandal sa kinauupuan at nanonood lang sa harapan niya.

She's not alone. Her friends are talking but it looks like she's not listening. Maybe she's waiting for my arrival?

I cleared my throat when I came to their table. Umangat ang tingin niya sa akin. Her serious eyes met with mine.

"Ayon oh! Pumunta na rin sa wakas!" Sigaw ni Princeton kaya napairap ako.

"You can sit here." Ayaya sa akin ni Miles sa tabi ni Leigh.

"I-I'm fine here-" sabi ko sabay hila sa upuan na nasa tabi ni Vince. Natawa naman yung lalaki sa sinabi ko.

"The seat is taken, Miss. That chair is the only one available." Pagpipigil ba tawa ni Vince. I scoffed in disbelief. I can't believe this, halatang pinagtutulungan nila ako!

"Never mind, hindi naman ako magtatagal." I gave them a forced smile. They just laughed at me.

"The night is young, you can sit and relax here. Besides, Thena wants to play with me for a while." Nagulat ako sa sinabi ni Athaleigh.
