Hyunjin ran into the court, his forehead dripping with sweat that he mindlessly wiped in a haste with his wrist band as he slowed down and took his time to calculate the players positions.

Two of his teammates tightly guarded inside the 3-point line while the ones outside was also occupied with their own opponents as well. Hyunjin huffed.

1 minute.

He quickly articulated a tactic in his head, his eyes finally going to Changbin, the present captain of the varsity team and his head-to-head adversary at the moment.

He doesn't know how, but somehow, he and the captain have an undisclosed dispute, despite not having a proper conversation before. It wasn't something physical or verbal, but it was a thick displeasing tension that only rise up whenever the two of them are in the same room or breathing in the same space.

As much as possible, Hyunjin avoids the other male. He's not the one to seek out a fight, so as much as he possibly could, he tries his best not to cross paths with Changbin, just for good measures. But having the same circle of friends makes it quite hard for him sometimes. Like in that moment.

Hyunjin had long quit basketball. He'd left it behind him after graduating from highschool, opting to focus on more important things as he went to college. But there are times he and his friends have a friendly match, just for fun and somewhat a way of catching up as they don't have that much time to meet and hang out that often anymore. All of them too busy with their own stuff, making it hard for them to see each other even going to the same university.

That's why when his Minho-hyung had texted him to meet up and have a game with them, he didn't hesitate to agree. Making haste to go to the court as soon as his classes had ended, only to know that Changbin, the very man he tries not to have a close proximity with, is going to join them which had never happened before.

I mean, of course, he's the captain of the basketball team anyway, why had he not thought about it before merrily skipping his way (no) in the direction of the gym?

He should know better.

But it was already late to back out and it would be rude to just suddenly leave and excuse himself, faking a fever or something.

Hence, there they are, Hyunjin going head to head with the captain in what's supposed to be a friendly match that has heightened into a more serious one because of the one sided competition Changbin wants to win for whatever reason unbeknownst to him.

Hyunjin bent down, dribbling the ball between hands. He made a gesture of advancing out to the right, and Changbin quickly follows, also stepping to the right with his eyes attentively watching Hyunjin's movements, determined to beat his ass.

But Hyunjin isn't the one to back down without a fight, and surely, he wouldn't lose.

Hyunjin quickly stepped back, and then did the same stance of running to the left, and he couldn't help the slight smirk that had plastered on his lips as Changbin took the bait. The other's defensive position faltering as his whole body tilted to the left, and Hyunjin took that moment to pass the ball on his right hand as he slipped his way by the other boy, leaving him dumbfounded for a brief second before the other chased after him, which would be too late.

Ten seconds,

Hyunjin reached inside, still dribbling the ball as he ran. His teammates doing their best to make a way for him, and even failing to do so, Hyunjin swiftly dodged all attacks with ease as he went under the ring and jump, flicking his wrist and successfully counting the basket as the time turned zero.

His team winning tightly 23-21, a mere two points that Hyunjin took a pride on as their university varsity team consists of good and skillful members, especially the captain that even got scouted and had an offer to play for a national team that games airs on national TV.
