mike watched as el walked into the school, noticing how she was wearing one of her favourite green sweaters.

but he also noticed how the sweater now looked two sizes too big today. he didn't notice it being this big before.

she didn't come into school with a smile, he thought.

he walked up to el, tapping her on the shoulder and she flinched lightly before turning. "oh, hi," she forced out a smile that looked way too real. "morning,"

he smiled back at her. "morning."

"did you need something?" she asked, gently shutting her locker before turning to face him properly.

"oh, no," he shook his head, "i just wanted to.." what did he want?

"i wanted to walk you to class?"

she smiled and nodded. "sure," then she looked around to see if leo was near before she walked with him with hurried feet.

"want some?" mike asked, showing el some crackers. "it's real good, changed my life,"

she let out a laugh and covered her mouth. "did it, now?"

he hummed and nodded. "hell yeah. go on, try one."

she placed her hand in and took one out, placing it in her mouth. "it's.. okay,"

"just okay? el, this is life changing. did you not taste it enough?" he asked and gave her a few more to eat, making sure that she had something in her system.

"okay, okay! i'll try it again!" she laughed and slowly chewed on it. "it has a cracker taste."

"it's a biscuit." he said, "bite it, chew it. savour the taste," he said making her burst out in laughter, her head tipping back. "savour it," she giggled.

"what!?"

"you're funny." she said as they sat down on their seats in science. "but the biscuits aren't bad,"

"right!"

she smiled and nodded and took out her notebook and work and he just occasionally snuck her a few pieces of snacks during class.

"mike," el whispered as she walked past him, stopping behind him as he turned with a smile. "hey, what's up?"

"look what i got you!" she sang and showed him a pack of snacks. "i got it for us to try from the vending machine. if you're free.. i have a free period and i just thought that—"

"yes," he agreed to whatever she was going to say.

she smiled widely. "okay, we can head to the library and we can study as well," she was so excited at the thought already.

he grinned as well. "yeah, we can study science,"

she nodded eagerly as they headed down the hall and went up to the second floor where the library was.

walking in, they went to try and find an empty spot in the rooms but due to it being full, they sat down at an aisle in the back instead.

pulling out her work, she excitingly sat closer to him. "i'm so excited for college already!" she giggled and sat closer.

he laughed and smiled softly at her excited expression that made his heart melt. "have you picked a major yet?"
