3rd person POV

Tubbo awoke by the sound of yelling and heavy footsteps. He sat up and sleepily rubbed his eyes. He was immediately filled with energy as he realized what was going on around him.

The head caretaker, Meredith, was screaming at Ranboo. She had a fistful of his hair and was pointing her finger in his face while shouting. Ranboo had his hand on hers as he tried to pry her off of him, tears streaming down his face.

"Where is he, child?" Meredith shouted. Ranboo, being mute, obviously did not answer her. "What is going on?! Let go of him!" Tubbo said as he jumped out of his bed. "Where is he?" She shouted again, ignoring Tubbo.

"Where is Thomas?"

Tubbo froze for a moment.

"I know you know where he is! Tell me!" She shouted, gripping Ranboos hair tighter with every word.

"Fuckin let go of him!" Tubbo demanded, shoving Meredith away from Ranboo with all of his strength. She stumbled backwards. "You can't yell at him and expect to get answers!" Tubbo said.

Ranboo held his hurting head as tears continued to run down his face.

"Boo..." Tubbo softly said, turning to Ranboo. "Where is Toms?" He asked. "If you know." He added. Ranboo reluctantly pointed out of the window, and Tubbo immediately caught on. "Did..." He hesitated. "Did he go past the wall?!"

Ranboo nodded, and the whole room went silent. The other children stood in shock, as well as all of the other caretakers.

"When?!" Tubbo asked. Ranboo pointed at Tubbo and then laid his head on his hands like he was sleeping. "When I was asleep?" Tubbo confirmed. Ranboo nodded.

Tubbo didn't know what to say. He was always skeptical about the stories of beasts as well, but knew it was still dangerous even if they didn't exist. There were snakes, and spiders, and animals with sharp claws and sharp teeth, and who knows what else.

"Why didn't you come wake me up before he left?!" Meredith shouted at Ranboo. "He's probably dead now because you didn't stop him!"

More tears welled in Ranboos eyes when she said that. He was now blaming himself for whatever happens to Tommy.

"This is not his fault!" Tubbo said to Meredith. "And don't shout at him!"

Suddenly, Meredith backhanded Tubbo in the face so hard he saw black dots in his vision for a little bit. He fell to the side and Ranboo caught him.

"Don't yell at me, young man!" Meredith scolded. Tubbo held his face and squeezed his eyes shut as Ranboo wrapped his arms around him. Tubbo was scared, sad, and confused. She had never actually hit him before.

After that, she just left without another word.

Ranboo led Tubbo over to his bed and picked up the note that Tommy had written. He handed it to Tubbo.

"It says...'Dear Tubs and Ran. I've set out to see if the stories are true. Please don't try to find me, you probably won't if you do try. I brought lots of supplies with me, so I'll be ok. Please don't worry too much about me. If I never return, know that I love you both so much.'...and he signed it." Tubbo read.

The two sat in silence for a moment, taking in everything that was happening.

"We should hide this. So Meredith doesn't take it from us." Tubbo suggested. Ranboo nodded, took it from Tubbo, and hid it inside of his book.

"God, Tommy." Tubbo chuckled to himself, staring up at the cracked ceiling. "What have you gotten yourself into?"
