Sunghoon takes a deep breath, closing his eyes for a brief second before adjusting the glasses up his nose.

“I can’t do it anymore,” Sunghoon complained. “Why bother finishing this proposal when I’m already extended.”

He pushed the laptop away from him to have a space for him to lay his head on. Just as then, he heard a knock from the door of his room.

“Come in,” Sunghoon tiredly replied.

The door opens as Jake comes inside with a cup of something in his hand.

“Thought you needed some caffeine,” Jake says as he puts the coffee down in front of him.

“I don’t,” Sunghoon says. “I don’t even plan on staying too late for this proposal thesis.”

“Move aside and I’ll take over the screen while you rest for a bit,” Jake says.

Sunghoon stood from his seat and took the cup of coffee with him on his bed while Jake took over the position as he scanned back the documents on Sunghoon’s laptop.

“Why would you choose such a complicated topic,” Jake complained upon realizing that Sunghoon only managed to add two paragraphs to the draft.

Silence surrounds them as Sunghoon didn’t dare respond back. He sips on the coffee as he watches Jake do his paper on the side. Jake has done enough already to help him graduate on time, it is just that Sunghoon chooses to enjoy being an athlete rather than a student for the last four years.

“Heeseung and I are planning to visit a music festival in the city next Saturday, would you like to come?” Jake breaks the sickening silence.

“Me?” Sunghoon asked. “Isn’t that supposed to be your date?”

“It can be a friend’s date, you and Heeseung rarely spend time now,” Jake says.

“Nah,” Sunghoon declines. “Friends will always be friends even after a year of not talking to each other. You should enjoy that day spending time with Heeseung, besides I don’t want to be a third wheel.”

Jake stopped clicking on the keyboard, turning the chair around to face Sunghoon.

“I remember something,” Jake says.

Sunghoon only looks at him curiously, anticipating for whatever it is that he suddenly remembered. Jake stared back at Sunghoon, contemplating whether to say it or not.

As much as possible, avoid choosing between one another. Although it sounds very complicated right now, both you and Heeseung will soon come to terms and agree that you both need Sunghoon in your life, Jay’s voice echoed in his mind.

“What is it?” Sunghoon asked impatiently.

“I remember you said before, back when we’re still in high school, that you are planning to confess to a person…what happened to that?” Jake reluctantly asked.

Sunghoon avoided eye contact as he sipped on the coffee again.

“Why’d you suddenly ask about the past,” Sunghoon said.

“I’m just curious, you never told me who’s the person you liked and what happened to that plan,” Jake says.

“It’s not that important, leave the past behind,” Sunghoon dismissed the topic. “Besides, I’m happy that he’s happy and that’s about it.”

He?

“Sunghoon-ah,” Jake speaks. “Come to the music festival with us, I’ll invite Jay and Riki too.”

Jake turns the chair around to face the screen back, one question ringing repeatedly in the back of his mind.

Does Sunghoon’s answer mean it’s either him or Heeseung?

“Friends?” Heeseung asked, giving Riki a judging look.

Riki rolled his eyes at the older man sitting crossed legs besids him on the bed.

“As if you and Jake are far more than just friends,” Riki said. “We’re on the same boat.”

Heeseung laughs at that, “Right.”

The room went silent again as they both focused back on the game they’re currently playing inside Heeseung’s room. Riki came here to share the news of him and Sunoo becoming friends, but playing games is necessary of course.

“So, like, when are you going to ask him out?” Heeseung asked after they passed another level of the game.

“I should ask you the same,” Riki said.

“Me?” Heeseung shortly giggles. “We’re attending a music festival next Saturday.”

“Ayy,” Riki nudges the older, “You only went on a date once, isn’t that too early?”

“Nothing’s early when everything seems late, Riki. You should make a move too, it’s possible that Sunoo likes his best friend, you know.”

Riki stopped clicking on his controller and stared at Heeseung.

“Yah! Help me get out of here! Why would you stop!”

Riki quickly goes back to playing.

“Did you confirm it? Jake likes Sunghoon?” Riki asked.

Heeseung smiled flatly, “No, but it seems like it.”

“You could be wrong,” Riki said. “They might be just friends.”

Heeseung only shrugged.

They continued playing silently, only the sound of the game controls could be heard. Not until Riki’s character died and he threw the controller across the room as he lay flatly on Heeseung’s bed, screaming angrily at specifically no one.

“Why do you need to say Sunoo might like his friend?” Riki complains. “I can’t focus!”

Heeseung laughs at the sudden action.

Riki reached for the cushion and hit Heeseung with it, the older one still laughing at him.

“I hate you!” Riki says, frowning at the older man.

“That’s why you need to make a move because you never know when it's too early and when it's too late,” Heeseung then said.

Riki remained silent again, staring at the ceiling as if thinking something so deep.

“But first, you should clarify about the conversation you overheard. Don’t keep the confusion to yourself, you might miss an explanation,” Heeseung advised.

Riki looked at him, sincerity in his eyes, “Thanks. I hope you succeed on your plan of asking Jake out.”

Heeseung smiled back at the younger boy, unknowing of the fact that the upcoming Saturday wouldn’t turn out like how he planned it to be.
