"YOUR TIE IS BECOMING A REAL PROBLEM, Eliza,” Hermione complained, turning the girl around to sort it out. They sat at their shared desk in the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom, Ron and Harry currently messing with a piece of paper, writing ink notes across it, passing it back and forth like they were four years old. Lizzie rolled her eyes at them, letting Hermione redo her tie, her fingers moving effortlessly to knot it properly. “They were never this bad last year.”

“Well, I had less to worry about last year,” Lizzie sighed, eyes moving to the door at the back of the classroom, Lupin still not having turned up yet. It was becoming a real problem that she hadn’t seen him since that time they should have been in Hogsmeade, and she really wanted to tell him about the spell working. “This year there’s–”

“The Soar, the birds you keep hearing, Dementors, homework, Snape, homework,” Ron listed off on his hand, ignoring the fact he said homework twice.

Lizzie turned as Hermione finished with her tie, giving him a blank stare. “Thanks for that, Ron.”

“No problem,” the boy shrugged, not hearing the sarcasm.

“Harry’s got a lot going on as well,” Hermione mentioned, the dark-haired boy looking up from the note he was currently scrawling with his quill.
