Rick Grimes. Police officer shot, now in a coma. That's what the headlines on newspapers used to say, but now it's all about zombie sightings.

At first, my dad dismissed them, reassuring me it was all just fake. It wasn't until the videos started coming out that he actually started to worry.

Once everything started shutting down, that's when my dad took the responsibility to get me and Rick Grime's family out of here, and to wherever would be safe.

He tried getting Rick, but he was already gone when my dad was there, Lori and Carl didn't take the news well.

Then we went to the city, I don't really know much about there. That was when my father stopped telling me stuff, instead telling Lori.

Even though I was only 8, my dad sure did tell me a lot. Even the stuff you're not normally supposed to tell a child.

Now we had a group. Dale was the oldest, and probably my favorite. He had many fun stories to tell me, Carl, and Sophia around the campfire. Glenn was also a favorite of mine, he was just nice in general. Both Dixons, Merle and Daryl, scared the hell out of me. They were great for hunting and helping protect the group, or at least that's what my dad told me.

I didn't really pay attention to anyone else or their names. I knew Carol, she was nice and Sophia's mom, but her husband was rude.

Currently some of our people were out and in the city. That was all I knew except for the fact that they've been gone longer than usual.

I was sitting next to my dad as Lori sat across from us cutting Carl's hair. Luckily my dad didn't force me to get a haircut. I hated getting haircuts since they'd always find a way to make it too short. I still would get them though, I wasn't a fan of having long hair.

My dad had just told another joke which got them all laughing and giggling when a car alarm was heard. My dad immediately leaving us three behind to go get check out what was happening.

"Talk to me Dale." A man said. I hadn't learned his name either.

"I can't tell yet." Dale responded, looking through his binoculars on top of his Rv.

"Let him get a good look at it." Said another.

Lori took me and Carl a little farther away as some of the other adults got out guns.

A blonde girl, Amanda or something spoke up, "Is it them? Are they back?"

I could see Dales lips moving, but couldn't make out anything he said.

"What is it?" The same girl asked once again.

Lori now had me and Carl too far away for me to snoop in on what was going on, which was unfortunate.

The alarm continued to get louder, and now we could see a red car, coming right to us.

Glenn came out just as everyone, except me and the two Grimes, went up to him.

"Holy crap. Turn that thing off!" Dale yelled at him, loud enough I could hear it correctly.

My feet wandered me closer, me being too nosey would probably be the death of me someday. Lori didn't stop me, instead just making sure her child was safe.

"I don't know how." Glenn said, shutting the door.

A bunch of yelling I could barely understand and within a couple seconds my dad and another guy had turned the alarm off, thankfully.

If I'm being honest I don't know what this group would do without him. He saved everyone, he made the tough decisions.

I went up to my dad, just standing close to him. He looked down at me, like he was gonna tell me to go stand back, but ended up just putting his hand on my shoulder, making me lean into his side as people continued talking at Glenn.

"Everybody is fine." Glenn said as the shouting died down, everyone now looking for answers about the others. "Well," he started shamefully, "Merle not so much."

"Are you crazy, driving this wailing bastard up here?" My dad questioned, his grip on my shoulder loosening. He raised his voice, "are you trying to draw every walker for miles?"

"I think we're okay." Dale said looking around.

"You call being stupid okay?" My dad questioned, turning his body just enough to look at Dale.

"Well the alarm was echoing all over these hills, hard to pinpoint the source." He explained.

My dad now left me standing and turned around.

"I'm not arguing, I'm just saying." Dale responded. Now Dale lectured Glenn. "Wouldn't hurt you to think a little more carefully next time, would it?"

Glenn just kind of shrugged, looking around at all of us. "Sorry." He paused, "got a cool car."

Nobody said a word, leaving the silence until another vehicle came, this one not having an alarm blaring.

The truck parked, a blonde woman coming up and running to hug the other blonde one. Both crying of happiness. Girls were weird to me in that sense. So much emotion. But maybe that's just the effect of growing up without my mom after she left me and my dad.

Another guy came out, his two kids running for him. Once again, a happy go lucky reunion.

I turned around to see Lori and Carl walking away, something they always did. I understood that, not wanting to see the reunions you never got.

My dad was now leaning against the car, Glenn wasn't lying when he said he got a cool car. I stood next to my dad once again, copying him. Immediately my dad took a couple steps away from me, sometimes he would really be the best, but other times I think he wished Carl was his son and not me.

I just dug the top of my converse into the dirt, something I always did. It was just a habit.

"How did y'all get out of there anyway?" My dad asked Glenn, the talking pulled me out of my thoughts.

"New guy, he got us out." Glenn responded.

Great. Another person I'll have to figure out the name of.

"New guy?" My dad asked, confusion plastered on his face.

"Yeah," the man with two kids said, "crazy vato just got into town." He turned his head at the truck, "hey helicopter boy, come say hello." He yelled.

I tried to get a look at the new guy, and I was shocked when I saw Rick come out. My dad told us he was dead. But here he was now, hugging his family in tears.

Everyone was around the campfire, laughing, Dale telling more stories. My dad was actually happy for the first time since this whole thing started. I was happy too. I had met Rick a few times whenever my dad would need me to stay at the police station on off days of school or sick days when I couldn't go.

Plus seeing Carl actually happy for the first time in awhile was nice. Last time I saw him this happy was probably sometime at school.

I was so zoned out in my own thinking I guess I missed all the fun and talking because before I knew it my dad was dragging me off to our little shared tent.
