I slowly opened my eyes to find a wooden ceiling above me. Still feeling pain in my arms and legs, I carefully pulled myself up into a sitting position. However, I was still in a huge amount of pain to where I just fell down once more. Turning my head, the Beast Hunter was sitting on the ground next to a hearth of a fireplace. The wood was slowly burning and the red flower was illuminating the dark place.
"W-Where am I?"
"You're safe," she said. "I made sure ya came here in one piece."
"T-Thank you."
"I'm not as savage as ya think I am," she said after a few moments of silence.
"Then explain what you did to the people in our village."
"That wasn't me," she turned her head over her shoulder. "That was an actual beast. And I am out here hunting it."
"I thought you've hunted other beasts before."
"I have, but I have yet to take care of this one."
"How did you get out here by yourself? And how do you know the village?"
She let out a sigh, "Can I trust ya?"
"I trusted you with not killing me when I was vulnerable."
"That doesn't mean I can trust you."
"Yes, you can trust me."
"If I hear ya spill anythin' about this back at the village, I'll cut ya and leave ya for the beast I am huntin'."
"Really violent," I muttered.
"I have to be if I'm gonna survive out 'ere by myself," she said.
"I won't tell a soul."
"Alright," she nodded after a while.
She stood up and walked over to me, grabbing a wooden chair that looked like she made it herself. Flipping it around, she straddled it and placed her arms on the back of the chair.
"I was born into that tribe. I remember seein' you around a lot, hangin' with the Shamada brothers and Kiriko. The beast that still terrorizes that village was a big problem back then. My father was tasked to bring the beast down. After he failed over and over, we were banished from the village, never to be seen again. But before that, when I was around fifteen, that was the age when young girls needed to be inseminated. I had tried so many times to avoid it, but the banishment of my family saved me. How did you get out of that?"
"Since I'm friends with the Shamada brothers, whose father runs the village, I got out of it."
"Figures," she grumbled. "Anyway, after we were banished out 'ere, I decided I would never return and if I found anyone out 'ere, I'd cut 'em down for what they did and how they treated my family. I've left little witnesses and when my whole family died out 'ere, I thought I might as well finish what my father started."
"Wait, so you're my age?"
"Yes."
"I never knew that. I also never heard about you."
"Well, the village tried to clean up the mess they caused. They came out 'ere and tried to kill me when I was all alone. I killed them all, leaving no one to tell the village. I went and delivered the message myself, with the bodies of the dead men they sent. They tried to come after me again, but like a raging beast, I killed them all. After getting the message, they never came back here again, only to hunt though. If they get even so much as a foot within me, they're dead."
"You almost killed Genji!"
"I would never touch one of the Shamada brothers and I'd certainly not touch the princess of the village."
"How come I'm not dead?"
"You needed medical attention. Thankfully my mum was a healer before she died and she taught me the basics of medicine."
"I-I'd like to help you catch the beast you're hunting."
She chuckled, shaking her head, "Ya wouldn't last out there for one second against the beast."
Standing up and turning around, I noticed the amount of scars that were on her body.
"I got all of these from fightin' that beast. It wasn't an easy fight. None of them were. They'd always result in me getting very close to killin' it or I was very close to bein' killed."
Leaning up, I reached over and ran the pads of my fingers down the scar that went right down the middle of her back. Getting startled, she abruptly spun around, looking angrily into my eyes.
"W-What the hell?"
"I-I'll help you get the beast. And I'll help you get back into the village."
She shook her head, "They won't accept me back into the village."
"If they wont," I slowly got up, even though I was wincing with pain.
"Don't get up," she said, trying to push me back down, but I held my hand up and she backed away.
"If they won't," I breathed in and out. "Then I will. And if I am to be outcasted as well, then I'll be outcasted."
She looked into my eyes, a look of wonder appearing.
"It sucks being out here alone with no one other than you and your thoughts. I'm surprised you didn't lose your mind."
"Well, I wasn't alone until about three months ago."
"Even then, that's still a lot on the mind."
"Why do you care?"
"Even if you were exiled from the village, you're still one of us."
"Ya know, no one has ever said that. Not even the people who tried to kill me and my family. But you're willin' to risk everythin' just to get me back in? Why?"
"I hate how you have to live out here and survive on your own. You should be back with us. Back where you were born. You of all people deserve it. If you succeed in what your father failed to do, then it serves all the more to get you back into the village."
"And you're really goin' to help me?"
"Yes. I am going to help you."
Shaking her head slightly, a small smile appeared on her face, "You're the first one to offer me help."
"Well, you offered me help when I needed it most. You're in need of help when you need it most."
"And I can count on ya for not betrayin' and backstabbin me?"
"After what you've been through," I reached over and was about to grab her hand, but she pulled it away from me.
However, she slowly reached hers out and grabbed mine, holding onto it lightly.
"I would never even think of hurting you."
A softness filled her eyes as she looked back into mine.
