Nerves

I swallowed hard as I watched her move around the bar like it was nothing. As if she knew this place like the back of her hand. She probably did, but there was something electrifying about her that I didn't know was capable of a person. But here she was, with her H/L H/C hair that made her face stand out among the crowd. A wide smile was on her face as she danced with a group of other women, laughing as she was having the time of her life. Grabbing my drink with a shaky hand, I took a sip, trying to get the alcohol to give me some confidence to at least walk up to her. But I know better than anyone that I'd have to down at least twenty shots to do that. My high tolerence was a blessing and a curse.

"Ya alright there, your majesty?" the bartender asked as I turned to face him.

"Y-Yeah," I said, nodding my head. "J-Just nervous."

"You? Nervous, your majesty? That's a first I have heard come from you."

"I-I know," I breathed out, watching him refill my cup.

"Something botherin' ya?"

I shook my head, grabbing my cup and turning to lean against the bar. My eyes wandered the crowd until I found her again. She was still dancing with people. Taking a long swig of my drink, I set it down on the counter. Standing up straight, I walked over to the bathroom and headed in. Turning on the faucet, some water dripped out and I cupped my hands underneath it, watching the somewhat clear liquid fill into my large palms. Splashing it onto my face, I shook the droplets off before staring at myself in the mirror. There was a whole ton of crap on it to where I couldn't see myself as clearly as I wanted to.

"I-I can do this," I said.

Why is she making my heart beat like this? Flutter and throb at the same time. It hurt to think about the possible outcomes to this night. She could be seeing someone else and I'd have to forget about her. How can I when she had such graceful and powerful moves. The way her hips swung back and forth. To the way they have a slight sway to her walk. Her hair looked smooth to where it reminded me of my silk blankets. Sucking in a deep breath, I exhaled before opening the door, heading back into the bar.

I slowly made my way closer to the dance floor, still watching her from afar. It should be easy with any other person. Sure I flirted around with the other women and sometimes men here and there. Only with the men, I was being playful and entertained their idea of thinking they could get with me. As for the women, it was a serious flirt.

"Excuse me, your majesty," a voice came.

I looked down to find it was the woman I exactly wanted to talk to. There was a small smile on her face that made her eyes seem like they were brighter than before. I took a step back because she startled me slightly. It caused me to knock into one of the high top tables, almost sending it to the floor. Reaching over, I grabbed the pole of the table and picked it up. Thankfully there were no drinks there.

"S-Sorry,"  I said to her, earning a small chuckle from her.

"Aye, it's alright. Lovely night isn't it?"

I nodded my head. The sound of my beating heart in my ears drowned out the loud music and unfortunately, drowned out what she was saying after I responded.

"Your majesty?"

"S-Sorry, c-can ya repeat that?"

"Why don't we go outside and talk?"

I nodded once more. She paid her tab and I did as well before we walked outside. I leaned against the wall of the building while she walked around in front of me.

"It was a bit loud in there," she said.

"It can also get pretty stuffy," I said. "H-How have ya been? Warehouse still runnin' smoothly?"

"Yeah. It's been pretty lively now since Geiger and Meri are helpin'."

"T-That's good to know," I nodded.

Here I was, finally alone with her. The woman I wanted to pursue, but never had the confidence to do so. My heart felt like it was going to burst out of my chest. I felt my face heat up as I could only imagine how pink or red I was. She picked her head up and titled her head slightly, a look of concern crawling onto her face.

"Ya alright, your majesty?"

"I-I'm fine," I said, trying to look away from her. "J-Just a little tipsy I suppose."

"Somethin' on your mind, your majesty?"

I wanted to say that she has been on my mind the entire night. That I want to hold her tightly in my arms and give her the world. Protect her from everything that could harm her and be right beside her. Show her a side of me I never thought existed. Taking in a deep breath, I turned and faced her.

"W-What's your name?"

"Y/N."

"Y/N, y-you're more than welcome to call me Odessa. Or Dez."

"It's an honor, Odessa," she smiled.

"I-If y-you're not doin' anythin'," I froze, trying to find the right words to express what I was thinking.

As my eyes looked anywhere other than her, I felt like I wanted to crawl into an alley and disappear. A few moments passed by and her giggle snapped me out of whatever fog I was in. I turned and faced her.

"Seems somethin' is botherin' ya," she smiled, taking a step towards me.

"B-Botherin' me? H-Have ya ever known me to get bothered by somethin'? I-I think ya drank a bit too much tonight, Y/N," I chuckled.

"I know what you're tryin' to say, Dez," she said.

Reaching up, she placed her warm hand against my cheek. Standing up on her tiptoes, she pressed a small kiss to my cheek, causing me to get even more red than I already was. Once she lowered herself to her normal height, I looked down at her, slowly processing what had just happened.

"Seems you captured my attention as well," she winked at me before walking off, leaving me just standing there with my mouth wide open and my face redder than anything.
