Taking a peek at the calendar next to me, there was a circle around today's date and then an 'x' over the one tomorrow. Leaning closely to get a better look, the date that was circled said 'date night' while the date with the 'x' over it said 'break up'. I let out a sigh as I remembered that day clearly. Odessa and I were about to celebrate two years together, but as we were getting closer to anniversary night, she started to seem out of it. She wasn't as attentive as she was originally. Date nights around then got cancelled and she was flaking out on some major events that she promised on going to. I asked her if everything was ok and she said it was fine. On the night before our anniversary, she sat me down and said she didn't want a relationship anymore. It absolutely broke my heart to hear those words come from her mouth.

A month after our breakup, and with me wallowing, I finally got back out there in the dating world. I tried to date men, but everything ended up being either a one night stand or he wanted to jump into a serious relationship right then and there. I wasn't going to do either of those and turned to women. However, being with Odessa, she kind of set the standard really high. She was caring and loving, protective as well. And with her being the Queen and all, she made it known not to hit on me or even flirt. With the women I tried dating, they didn't offer that protection. Not to mention, anytime our exes were brought up and I mentioned Odessa, all things serious went out the window.

First it was fine, especially with some of the women, but once the men found out I was her ex, they only wanted to be with me to gain her attention. That backfired immediately as she didn't look our way, not even when the guy was trying to be handsy with me. All she did was walk in the direction she was going in without giving us a glance. It was hard to be with other people after Odessa. Not because she was the Queen and people wanted to use me to get her attention, but because of my high standards.

Now it has been three years since we broke up and I haven't talked to Odessa since. I don't know if she's been dating or not, but I honestly don't care to know. As I was finishing getting ready for my date, there was a knock on the door. Walking over, I opened it up to find it was my date.

"Aye, you're a bit early," I smiled at her. "I'll be ready soon. Like ten minutes tops."

"A-About that," she said. "You're a great person, Y/N, truly, but I don't think I am ready for a relationship."

"That's completely understandable," I nodded.

"A-And I'm sorry to call off the date tonight."

"I totally get it. Have a good night," I smiled as she smiled back.

Closing the door, I let out a sigh, but what can I do? If she wasn't ready for a relationship, I can't force her. Since I was almost ready, I might as well walk around town and show off for a bit. Once I was finished getting ready, I left my house and locked the door behind me. Heading into the heart of town, I walked around as people were heading to bars to get something to eat. There was a commotion going on towards the scrapyard. I guess Wrecking Ball was having another fight.

As I was making my way over there, the hairs on the back of my neck stood up. Turning to face the alley to my right, I found Odessa was leaning against the wall, a bottle of beer in her hands as we stared down one another. It's been so long since I had any kind of contact with her that it made my heart pound so loud that it pounded in my head. I swallowed hard as she walked out of the alley and straight towards me. She circled around me, like a predator trying to intimidate its prey by limiting their space to escape. I heard a small growl come from her throat as she backed away, heading back towards her office building.
