"It...hurts..." Meredith pants. "Make...it...stop."
"Mommy?" Maddie was concerned
"Here-" Derek quickly got up and grabbed her a strong painkiller and injected it into her port, not wanting her to swallow meds while she was in this amount of pain. "Maddie, grab Nanas. I'm gonna carry mommy back to bed, come with us." Derek said and carried her to the master bedroom. He placed her down on the bed and Maddie climbed in with her mom
"Is it kay now, mommy?" Maddie asked her mother
"Yeah.." Meredith's breathing started to ease slowly
"I'll call Richard. Just rest here with Maddie. I'll turn the television on for you two." Derek said and kissed both girls' heads and walked out of the room to make a phone call

A few hours later Richard finished examining Meredith. Maddie was playing in the playroom while the adults discussed the results
"I don't wanna scare you, Mer. But I'd like you to come in for a scan and an ultrasound of your stomach.." Richard sadly smiled, knowing she hated the amount of tests she had to undergo ever since she found out she was sick
"Can it wait?" Meredith asked with a sigh
"I think it's better you go today. Get yourself dressed and come in, okay? I'll make sure Bailey does all your exams. See you in a bit." Richard hugged Meredith and got ready to leave, saying by to Derek and Maddie as well
"I'll go grab some stuff to bring, just in case it would take longer." Derek offered and kissed her forehead
"Or when I get admitted." She sighed as she saw Derek leaving and had a bad feeling about the checkup
"Mama! Can I bring my stuffies? Nanas wants his fwiends!" Maddie ran inside the room with a small backpack. Derek had obviously asked her to pack some things.
"Of course, sweetie. Are these the stuffies you wanted to bring?" Meredith asked as she helped putting all the stuffed into the bag
"Oh Mommy! I wanna bring Cowdowoy Beawr also! He wants to come!"
"Go get him, baby." Meredith smiled and waited until Maddie returned with the bear and she put him in the bag also. "I think Nanas wants to be carried, there's no more place inside."
"Okay girls, are we ready?" Derek walked inside with their jackets on his arm
"Yes daddy! My stuffies are gonna come too!" Maddie announced with a huge smile
"Let's go then." Derek smiled and helped them both in their jackets and helped Meredith to the car as she was still a bit weak and tired from her chemo
During the car ride Derek had called Bailey to announce they were close and ask for some help since Meredith had drifted off
"Meredith?" Bailey softly whispered as she tried to wake up the younger doctor
"Hmm.. Bailey.." Meredith sighed disappointed
"I know you'd rather not be here but come on, did you ever get teached you how ungrateful that is?" Bailey tried to sound stern but inside her heart was being crushed
They took her inside where Bailey got an ultrasound ready, wanting to check what it was exactly that caused Meredith some discomfort. She got the gel ready, "This is cold." She warned
"I know, Bailey.." Meredith sadly smiled as Bailey lifted the ultrasound probe to her stomach
Meredith winced, both from the cold and discomfort from the light pressure on her stomach. She even pulled away unconsciously
"Sorry sweetie, just really need to do this." Bailey apologize as a tear streamed down Meredith's cheek when Derek walked back into the room
"Maddie's with Alex. They're waiting in my office until we're done." Derek explained and took a seat next to Meredith, holding her hand in his own while trying to comfort her
"Mer?! I got a page from Derek, saying you were here for a checkup?" Cristina bursted into the room, ignoring the two other doctors completely
"Yang! Go to Dr Shepherd's office and wait there with Dr Karev and Maddie, please." Bailey ordered, not wanting Meredith to be exposed to any more stress
"But what?! You can't kick me out!" Cristina shook her head
"Hell yeah I can. Yang, go!" Bailey ordered, Cristina immediately knowing she wasn't joking.
"You better page me the second you know more." She threatened Derek
"She means it as well.." Meredith whispered as Cristina exited the room and looked back at the screen but then noticed Bailey turned the screen away, she immediately knew this was bad
"What's wrong?" Derek frowned. "Bailey, what's wrong?" He asked again as he didn't got an answer
"Meredith.. I'm afraid I found some mets in your stomach.." Bailey turned to the other woman, grabbing her hand
"It can't be true.." Meredith whispered. "I don't wanna die.. I can't leave Maddie behind-" She started sobbing
"I'll give you two a minute while I schedule some scans to confirm." Bailey said and quietly left the room, leaving them alone
"I'm scared, Derek! How did that even happen? I underwent surgery, radiation, and chemo! What else?! What's next?!" She sobbed hysterically in his strong and masculine arms
"We'll keep fighting it, Mer. I believe you will fight this. Maddie and I need you, I'm not giving up on you, Meredith Grey." He said sternly and kissed her
"We gotta tell Maddie-" Meredith whispered
"After the scans, okay? Once we know what's next. Then we'll tell her." Derek promised Meredith who nodded in agreement
"Derek?" She whispered
"Yes Mer?" He bent over her in concern, immediately checking her sats
"I love you.." She whispered
"I love you too. I love you so much." He kissed her lips and tucked her in before Bailey would return to tell them what would be next
