Addison was driving Meredith home. Her eyes were constantly focussed on her friend that was sitting in the seat next to her, softly whimpering in her soft sleep

The redhead had to wipe away a tear as she had a hard time seeing her friend struggle so bad. After Meredith and Derek's divorce the two stayed in contact, making sure Maddie would always have her aunt and uncle close

They almost reached the house when Meredith woke up, clutching her stomach right away

Addison knew enough and quickly pulled over. Meredith opened the door with her little strength and started heavily throwing up

"Oh Mer-" Addison quickly held Meredith's body as she saw her friend struggling to keep herself up and rubbed her back for support, feeling extremely useless

"I- I'm okay." Meredith muttered after a bit, feeling like her stomach was empty. "Sorry.." She mutters

"Don't be. Nothing happened, let's get you home." Addison said and helped her friend back into her seat. "Let's go."

Derek was waiting at the porch for Meredith and Addison. Maddie was asleep on the couch after playing all day. Derek hoped it would be able to sneak Meredith inside without Maddie's noticing

Addison parked her car and Derek walked up to them

"Hi Mer. How did it go?" Derek asks as he opened the door

"Hmm.. Shitty." Meredith replies and makes an attempt to unbuckle herself

"Let me-" Addison helped. "She just threw up. Maybe you should get her dressed into something warm and comfy." Addison suggests

"I will. Mind to stay until I'm finished?" Derek asks and scoops Meredith in his arms. "Just in case Maddie wakes up?" He asks and Addison agrees

"I can walk-" Meredith mutters weakly

"I know you can, but I love having you in my arms." Derek tells her, even if he doubted she'd really be able to walk as he had heard how Mark carried her out of the hospital. He brought her to their room and placed her down on the bed

"Think I'll take a nap." Meredith quietly said, feeling absolutely exhausted

"Of course." Derek softly smiles and tucks her in, leaving a bowl direct next to her face. "Do you want me to stay with you?"

"No. Maddie-" Meredith nods and closes her eyes, feeling unable to stay up any longer

"Of course. Yell if you need me, your phone is next to you." He said, knowing she was probably already asleep so he kissed her forehead and tucked her in, hesitating a little to walk out

...

An hour later Meredith woke up again, shivering as she was so cold. Luckily for her Derek had left the bowl. She grabbed it when she felt her stomach starting to turn and she couldn't keep herself from throwing up again

"Mama? You're home?" Maddie suddenly walks through the door. "Why are you sick?" She asks confused

Meredith couldn't really reply as she just kept throwing up, the few seconds before Derek entered felt like a few hours

"Mads, go to your room, please." Derek ordered

"No! Why is mommy sick?" Maddie asks again as she sees her dad run up to her mom

Wasn't her mommy better? Was it all a lie? No, she was better. she had to be

"Maddie, go outside the room, please." Derek ordered, a bit more stern this time

"No!" Maddie crosses her arms

"Maddie, out!" Derek snaps

Maddie runs out, tears starting to spill down her big eyes

"Derek!?" Meredith looks up confused. "W-What did you do? Give me my phone. Now." She said sternly

"Mer, I'm sorry, okay?" Derek replies annoyed

"My phone. Now." She repeats herself, trying to ignore the pain in her stomach

Derek sighs and gives her the phone

"You're going to relax tonight. And I want you to sleep now." She said and texted Mark. "You arrange everything. I'm going to Maddie." Meredith pushes herself up, making a stop at the bathroom to vomit

"You gotta be kidding me?!" Derek replies annoyed

"What?" Meredith walks out a bit later. "I won't allow anyone to yell at my daughter, not even you." Meredith said sternly and walks out, her nausea disappearing as she was so desperate to keep a poker face

"Meredith, come back! You need to rest." Derek visibly got worried

"I'm going to find Maddie and we're gonna join you in the bed for a nap after you apologize." Meredith said and disappears

"Mommy?" Maddie cries as she saw her mom walking into the room

"Hey monkey, can you sit on the couch with me for a minute?" Meredith asks, realizing there was no way she'd be able to get up from the ground

"Otay.." Maddie nods and follows her mom, tears running down her chubby cheeks

Meredith and Maddie had a long talk, Meredith still couldn't tell her daughter she was still sick, but also didn't wanna lie that she's completely healthy

"Daddy didn't mean to yell." Meredith hugs Maddie

"I should have listened." Maddie mutters

"Yes. But daddy can't snap either. So maybe you and daddy should both apologize. Maybe he can make you something yummy." Meredith forced a small smile despite the increasing pain she felt from the strain that was on her body

"Kay... Mommy, are you coming as well?" Maddie asks

"You go find daddy first. I'll wait here." Meredith said a d watched Maddie run off, finally allowing herself to groan in pain and let her body drift off to sleep as she was completely exhausted
