"Maddie, you really can't behave like this." Derek told her one last time

"Sowwy.." Maddie whimpered

"I know." Derek softly kissed her head

"Dr Shepherd, they took Dr Grey to CT." Nurse Linda told him

"Mama?" Maddie frowned in his arms and almost started to freak out. "Why they took mommy?" She asked confused, her body wiggling in Derek's arms

"Just to do some quick checks, sweetie." Derek tried to ease her. He never wanted to lie but his daughter shouldn't have to be put up with all of this

"No!" Maddie started hitting Derek

He quickly carried her inside Meredith's room. Many pictures and drawings decorated the room. The entire room was filled with flowers and cards from coworkers and friends.

"What did we say about hitting?" Derek asked sternly, clearly hurt by his daughter's behavior

"I wanna see mama!" Maddie pouted as she was placed on the ground, scooting behind the couch so she didn't have to make eye contact

"Mads, I wanna see you when I talk to you." Derek softly said

"Mama. Want mama." She muttered

"Mommy will be back soon. Dr Bailey is just taking her to get some tests done." Derek said, taking a seat on the couch filled with Maddie's stuffed animals

But Maddie refused to talk, which worried Derek a little. This isn't her usual behavior.

"Honey.. Mommy and I aren't mad. We wanna talk to you. We wanna be here for you." Derek said gently

"Mama needs to stay.." Maddie whispered but Derek didn't hear it. The little girl was scared her mom would die because she wasn't good enough like the boy had told her

"Hi guys." Bailey wheeled Meredith inside with a sad smile as she was asleep in the bed

She had lost so much weight, she was almost as pale as her sheets and completely disappeared in the big hospital bed

"Mama!" Maddie jumped up

"Hmm.." Meredith weakly stirred. Her energy was completely drained. She was wrecked and exhausted

"Sowwy mama." She muttered and tried to get onto the bed

"Wait monkey, I'll lift you in a minute." Derek said softly and helped Bailey install her in the room. Derek softly kissed her head

"No! My tuwn!" Maddie whined

"Of course." Derek nodded and carefully placed Maddie in the bed with Meredith

"Mama-" Maddie whispered, stroking her fingers over Meredith's hand

"Hi." Meredith whispered. She was clearly not very aware of her surroundings

"Derek.. Meredith.." Bailey looked at both of them

"What's up Bailey?" Derek frowned. He knew that looks. He had given it so many times to his own patients. To patients that had no chances left anymore

This couldn't be true. This wasn't happening to the most important person in his life besides Maddie

"Tell us." Derek demanded, which scared Maddie and woke up Meredith

"What's up?" She quietly asked. She was too exhausted to make anything more out of it

"We.. Do I page someone to look after Maddie?" Bailey asked

"No!" Maddie started clutching onto her mom

"Come on, monkey. We'll see you back in just 5 minutes." Derek promised and was about to stroke her hair but it triggered Maddie very clearly

"No! Stwop! No!" Maddie screamed and tried to hit again which made Meredith very confused

"What did we agree on?" Derek frowned as he looked at his daughter

"No!" Maddie held onto her mom for dear life

"Shh." Meredith whispered, very confused. "Bailey.. Go ahead please." She asked exhausted, trying to hug her daughter as firm as her body allowed her to

"Meredith, we found mets in your stomach.. Actually.. It's overtaking your entire stomach." Bailey sighed

Meredith nodded her head, she was in too big of a shock to respond now

She had to remind herself that her daughter was in the room with them so they had to remain calm and avoid freaking out

But Derek had a hard time with that. He felt the floor from below his feet disappearing and felt as if his whole world vanished away

"No-" Derek shook his head, immediately moving onto the bed, holding extremely tight onto Meredith and Maddie

"Der-" Meredith weakly muttered

"Bailey- That can't be true- What now?" He asked

"We wanna to to operate-" Bailey started

"No! Mommy gettin bettew! No suwgewy!" Maddie frowned, clearly listening

"Maddie-" Meredith wrapped her arms tighter around the girl. "This will help. Mommy needs to do this."

"No! Wanna pway!" Maddie frowned. "Pway with momma!"

"We'll play-" Meredith said but she felt so extremely tired. She was absolutely wrecked and exhausted which caused her to feel like she was about to throw up or faint

"Maybe you need some rest before we continue this talk." Bailey suggested as she sees her former intern completely exhausted

"Fine.." She whimpered

"Of course you are fine. But I really think you need a nap." Derek intervened

"Don't wanna be asleep.." Meredith groaned

"But you need to. Because your energy is probably all gone." He sighed, hating to see her like this

"When do I have more chemo?" Meredith asked

"About that.." Bailey sighed and didn't know how to continue. She saw Meredith and Derek's concern growing worse. "We'll need you to go through a few days of chemo in a row, see if it's working on your body. Because so far it's barely responding." Bailey told them

"What-" Meredith gasped. She couldn't believe that she went through all of it without results

"I'm really sorry but it's really needed. But we need you to undergo the surgery to cut out as many mets as we can. And.. We'll possibly have to place a long term feeding tube." Bailey told her, not sure if she realized it herself

Meredith felt Derek's arms tighter around her small and frail body, luckily he was holding onto her because she was really struggling. Her head was spinning, she was so sad and angry that she could barely even think

She and Derek were both holding back their tears, luckily Maddie didn't completely understand but the little girl felt there was something up. She got nervous and wanted someone to explain everything to her

"Mommy's getting bettew, wright daddy?" Maddie looked at her father, her eyes begging him to explain

"Well.." Derek hesitated, not sure at all

"Of course." Meredith softly muttered. She didn't want her daughter to worry. "Oh-" She gasped and weakly sat up

"Here-" Bailey quickly grabbed a bucket for her as she threw up

"Mama!" Maddie screamed extremely terrified

"Mer- Easy-" Derek rubbed her back and held her upright as she vomited

"Kay-" Meredith muttered as she stopped throwing up

"Mama-" Maddie clutched onto her mother

"It's- It's okay." Meredith tried to assure her daughter but slowly fell asleep
