"Maddie!" Derek yelled for his daughter. They had been sitting outside at the park. It had been a few months since Meredith had come home and a lot had been happening
Derek was staring ahead of him, thousands of thoughts running through his head
"Daddy!" Maddie ran towards him. "Nanas and I are hungwy!"
"Right.. I think I got you some cookies." Derek nodded and opened the little girl's backpack
"Nooo!! I want Ice cweam!!! Mommy's favowite!" Maddie demanded. "I miss mommy!"
"I know monkey, just.. let's go home, please." Derek almost begged
"But wanna pway!" She muttered, clearly the little girl was exhausted
"We can play at home.." Derek suggested
"Sure." She sighed a bit sad
Derek drove them home, taking the ferry as he'd wanna take some extra time to avoid the house for a little longer
"Mama! Mama!" Maddie yelled as Derek got her out of the car
"Shh, be quiet! Mommy's probably sleeping!" Derek chuckled as they walked up to the house
"Mama gotta wake up! Gotta play!" Maddie sternly said as Derek opened the door and she rushed towards the couch, too fast for Derek to stop her
"Maddie-" Derek tried but if was of no use
"Mama!" She screamed
Meredith woke up, she looked confused at first, her very short blonde hair looked a bit messy from laying down on it
"Maddie." Meredith smiled
"And Nanas!" Maddie pushed her stuffed monkey into Meredith's arms
"I would never forget about Nanas." Meredith promised, accepting Derek's long and soft kiss
"How was your nap?" He brushed his hand over her short hair
"A little short." She chuckled. "But amazing. I never expected to be this weak after getting back to work, I thought I was finally getting stronger." She said annoyed
"You are getting stronger, you just need to get used again, which just takes time and that's okay." Derek said softly, kissing her again
"I am starving!" She commented
"Finally!" Derek chuckled as it had taken a while for Meredith to get her appetite back and he was happy. She was still so thin, he was terrified she'd catch the flu and maybe get even thinner
"What are you making?" Meredith smiled softly at her husband
"Hmm.. lasagna? And strawberry ice cream afterwards?" Derek winked
"Sounds amazing!" Meredith chuckled and wrapped her arms around her husband
She had been very clingy ever since getting sick
"Mama, wanna pway!" Maddie started jumping up and down
"Yes monkey, give me a minute." Meredith chuckled and gave Derek a final kiss before following her daughter to the playroom
Maddie and Meredith played for a while until Derek called out for them
"Hey-" Meredith muttered, clearly tired out
"Hey, are you okay?" Derek asked
"Yeah." She smiled softly, taking a seat and rubbing her fingers
"Are they hurting again?" Derek frowned as he served the food
"Just a little, I hope it will pass soon." Meredith muttered, stretching her fingers a bit
"My ladies." Derek smiled, giving both their plates
"Thank you daddy!" Maddie giggled

A few weeks later Meredith and Derek had been spending the entire day cuddling on the couch, Meredith was exhausted after her first 8 hour surgery and Derek had taken her home to rest while Maddie was asleep after watching movies with her parents
"Der?" Meredith whispered
"Yes?" He turned to face her
"Can we go out tomorrow? For a walk on our land, please?"
"Are you sure you feel up to it?" Derek asked her, brushing his fingers over her short hair
"Yeah, I missed it." She nodded
"Maybe we should go to bed now, so you will have enough energy for a morning walk, after all you had a very busy day today." He kissed the side of her head and helped her stand up
"I don't wanna go to bed, I spent months and months being asleep." She whined
"And you need to make a proper recovery so you need to listen to your body and give it all the love it deserves." He placed a soft kiss on her lips and scooped her up in his arms
"Derek-" She giggled
"Yes my love?" Derek chuckled and walked up to their room and placed her down on the bed
"You're an idiot!" She laughed
"You're calling your husband-" Derek suddenly stopped, realizing they weren't married anymore
"Der.." Meredith whispered as she saw his face changing
"Sorry." Derek sighed
"Derek, I love you." Meredith pulled at his hand. He laid down next to her and held her small and tiny form in his strong arms, careful not to hurt her
"I love you too." He whispered
"I would love to get married again. I always kept our post-it." She whispered, almost scared to sound pathetic
"You did?" Derek frowned
"I never stopped loving you, Derek." Meredith kissed him
"I was unable to stop loving you, you're my wife, Mer, you're my everything. You and Maddie- I- the thought of losing-" He stuttered
"You won't lose any of us." Meredith promised him
"Mama?" They suddenly heard Maddie's voice. "I got bad dweams!"
"Come here monkey, lay down with us." Meredith lifted the blanket, letting her daughter climb underneath the warm blankets
"Mommy and daddy love you so, so much." Derek whispered
"And mommy no sick no more.." Maddie muttered as she started drifting off
"I'm no longer sick, everything will go back to normal very soon." She nodded in agreement. "Sweet dreams, sweetie."
Derek wrapped his arm around both girls, watching as they both fell asleep. He had really won the lottery and he would never let them go again
