Chapter 4: A Familiar, yet Unfamiliar Realm.

As Demi stepped through the portal, purple and green mist seemed to swirl around her, all composed of that same mysterious monster energy that was contained within the crystals.
Before she knew it, she found herself in the Monster High attic, but not the one she remembered. It was familiar, yet it felt foreign and unfamiliar at the same time. Somehow, she could sense that yet another reboot had happened there.
On the wall was a dusty, ancient looking, standing mirror that still swirled with monster energy inside it. It looked just like the one from the Shadow High dimension. She knew that she had to hide the active portal though, so she quickly picked up a dusty black sheet from a pile of boxes and used it to cover the very suspicious looking mirror. She made sure to take pictures of the attic and the mirror of course.
Before she could head downstairs though, she got a text from Heather to make sure that she made it through the portal safely and to send pictures of the school's interior and exterior. Demi replied that she was safe, but she sensed that another reboot had occurred. She then sent Heather the pictures that she had taken on her phone of the attic and the mirror.
She then quietly cracked the door to the attic open and made sure that it wouldn't lock while she was out. As she crept down the stairs, she noticed that there were now hallways that lead to dorm rooms for some reason. She did not recall the original Monster High dimension having dorms like this. This was definately another reboot. She was completely sure of it now.
Even the students looked different than she remembered, as they were not as skinny as they were before. She didn't blame them though, as her time in the Shadow High dimension had altered her appearance a bit as well. She could still vaguely tell want monster species the ghouls and mansters roaming the hallways were though and she thought that she recognized quite a few of them.
A ghoul with long lapis lazuli blue hair wearing golden mummy wraps and Egyptian jewelry was talking to a pink sea monster. She wouldn't have been surprised if that ghoul was a rebooted form of Cleo De Nile, one of Draculaura's friends. She also thought that she saw Toreli Stripe and Deuce Gorgon as well, except Deuce now had green skin for some reason.
Somehow, nobody in the crowd of monsters heading to and from their dorms seemed to really notice or pay attention to her. She was a vampire though, and there were plenty of vampires at this school, so maybe she just blended in more easily.
The hallways and the Creeperteria looked mostly unchanged, even having a similar color scheme to what she remembered. She was still taking pictures of everything and sending them to Heather to provide information to the group of course. She even thought that she saw a dark-skinned woman with a normal human skintone that reminded her of Headless Headmistress Bloodgood.
Upon peering deeper into the Creeperteria, she noticed three very familiar ghouls sitting at a lunch table. One of them was a dark-skinned werewolf, one of them was a Frankenstein monster with long white hair with black streaks, and the third member of the group was a very familiar looking pink vampire with black and pink hair.
They looked a bit different though. Clawdeen was wearing a more casual outfit that the fashionista Clawdeen from her original world would never be caught dead in. Frankie now had more of a blue tone to their skin than she remembered as well as a prosthetic leg.
Draculaura looked almost like herself, but different. She was still short, but now she was a bit chubbier. She now wore her hair down rather than in her iconic ponytails and the colors in it were done in a pink and black split dye rather than the black hair with pink streaks that Demi remembered. She also had a witchy looking hat on and on the table in front of her was a thick leather book that resembled a spellbook.
Suddenly, Draculaura turned around to look at Demi in confusion, her pink eyes looking unfamiliar and lacking the warmth of HER Draculaura's lavender eyes.
"Hey ghoul, do you need something? Are you new here?", Draculaura asked Demi, her voice lacking the warmth and the Transylvanian accent that she remembered Draculaura having. It sounded wrong and unfamiliar to Demi, and she couldn't help but feel bad for Draculaura, even if this Draculaura had no memory of her past, pre-reboot, self.
"I just transferred here. I am just wondering where the Admissions Office is. This school is so big and I nearly got lost trying to find my dorm.", Demi lied, using her years of acting experience to carefully conceal her lie. She felt guilty lying to Draculaura, but she quickly reminded herself that this was not HER Draculaura and a completely different vampire.
Draculaura then got up and told her friends to watch her spellbook really quick while she continued talking to Demi, "Since I am the Student Bloody President, I will personally walk with you there. It has maps of the school and it is down that howlway.", she said, pointing down a hallway that Demi had yet to go down.
"You never told me your name, by the way.", Draculaura continued.
"My name is Demi Batista. You may call me by my nickname, Elissabat, though.", Demi said, smiling at Draculaura.
Draculaura smiled back at her, "I'm Draculaura, daughter of Dracula. Its nice to finally meet another nice vampire for once."
"And these are my beasties, Clawdeen Wolf and Frankie Stein.", Draculaura said, gesturing to her friends at the lunch table.
"I'm Clawdeen Wolf, and your style is amazing, ghoul. Love the purple.", Clawdeen said.
         "You're too nice!", Demi said.
"Anytime, ghoul.", Clawdeen gave Demi a friendly smile, showing her fangs a bit.
"And I'm Frankie Stein! Its nice to meet you. I go by the pronouns They/Them by the way!", Frankie said excitedly, taking their hand off for Demi to shake. As Demi shook Frankie's hand, electricity coursed through her body, nearly electricuting her.
Noticing this, Frankie hastily apologized, "I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to electricute you! Are you okay?", she asked nervously.
"I'm okay. You didn't hurt me. A little electricity cannot kill a vampire.", Demi said.
Frankie breathed a sigh of relief.
"Well, we have to be heading off now. Make sure that nobody takes or notices my spellbook!", Draculaura said, as her friends nodded.
Draculaura continued to talk as they walked to the Admissions office together. "Aren't my friends the best? Maybe we can all go to the Coffin Bean sometime! The Cherry Juice there is to die for!", Draculaura said excitedly. Demi just smiled at her and nodded.
Even if this wasn't HER Draculaura, she was still welcoming her with open arms without any cruelty or gossip. She couldn't help but compare the kindness of Draculaura and her friends to her friends and roommates back at Shadow High. The Storm Twins were simply cruel and even her own roommates, Lola Wilde and Eliza McFee were really into gossip and drama. Lola had even started many false rumors about Ash Silverstone's dating life to the point where Demi was tired of hearing about it. Heather and the First Years were surprisingly pleasant, even though they had their own fair share of drama and arguments in their friend group.
Eventually, they got to the office. "The maps are in there. I hope that I was able to help. While we're here though, do you want to exchange numbers?", Draculaura asked.
After exchanging numbers, they took a quick selfie together on Draculaura's i-Coffin, which Draculaura quickly texted to Demi.
"Well, I have to head back to lunch now. I wish you the best of luck, and I hope to see you around, ghoul.", Draculaura said, waving goodbye real quickly before turning around and going back down the hallway.
Before any adults could notice her, Demi quickly grabbed four maps from the Admissions Office and followed the map to the graveyard area outside the school. She then took pictures of the graveyard and the castle-like school building.
As she neared the stone statue near the marked entrance to the Catacombs though, she swore that she could hear HER Draculaura's voice calling out to her, as if she was very close to her, yet far away from her at the same time, as if she was guiding her from afar. In that moment, she knew that she had to find her way into those Catacombs no matter what, even if it was against Monster High's school rules.
Before nightfall, she found her way back to the attic, where she removed the black sheet hiding the mirror and chanted the words engraved on the mirror's edge that were almost completely hidden to reactivate the mirror portal to Shadow High.
As the mirror filled with the familiar purple and green mist, she stepped through the portal.
