It's strange. Looking at a chess board and not realising you're missing two key components until it's too late. Until your opponent is a step away from checkmate and you're fumbling looking for your knight. I've been looking at the board too much, too intimately. I've been zeroing in and overanalysing things instead of stepping back and considering everything at hand. I guess because of this, that's why I'm here.
My knees hit the dew covered grass. My throat sore from the scream that I had released. My hands covered my ears as I moaned in pain and hunched over towards the grass as if my movements would quieten the voices in my head. Rough hands grabbed my shoulders and shook my body, I flickered my eyes away from the ground and up to where James was hunched over me. His mouth was moving and his eyes frantically searched my body as if searching for any obvious signs of why I screamed.
My eyebrows furrowed as I tore my eyes away from James and towards a black dressed figure that stood behind him a couple of feet away. I could feel my heart thump in the chest as the figure raised its hand and slowly waved at me. I knew them, they were the figure I saw weeks ago before the first murder.
They were death
"Fawn?! What the fuck!" James' voice was like an air horn as it pierced my ears, the fog that once took over my mind seeming to vanish. I snapped my eyes back to him before I turned back to where the figure once was. But they weren't there, instead stood Mia and Fleamont who both look terrified and shaken as they stared at both James and I.
"Sirius- Remus said she had a star. He's the star James. They have Sirius" I grappled to get the words out in order. James' chocolates eyes widened in realisation before he stood up and bolted towards the house.
