eneajI sat in a fast food drive thru line in Yenvy's Bentley, heading back to Houston- the very last thing I had been planning on doing.
"You okay back there?" Pey asked, glancing back at me as Yenvy passed her our bags of food.
"Yeah," I shrugged.
I was home sick now that I had seen my mom for a short amount of time, and I was exhausted. My mouth was dry, my freaking body hurt. And the last thing I liked about all of this was that my mind was failing me. There was so much I couldn't remember after walking away from Valerie at the club. Hazy memories of Jacinth and Yenvy's friend.
I wouldn't have cheated, I keep telling myself, I wouldn't have done that. "Double cheeseburger, your usual," Yenvy passed my bag to me, plucking it out of Peytyn's lap. "Fries and nuggets should be in there. The lady's making your drink right now." She looked through the other bags on Peytyn's lap, "This should be your's, Pey," she mumbled.
I tuned her out, holding the warm bag to my chest as I stared out the window. Why me? Why all of this?
"Here's your drink, Eneaj," Yenvy passed me my large Sprite.
I sat it in the cup holder back here.
"Hey, good news, the crew and Val got all your stuff back," Pey turned around to tell me.
"Where was it?" I asked, rubbing my sore head, "Who had it? How did they get it back?" I questioned.
Pey shrugged. "We just know that it was at a friend of Yenvy's friend's place. Someone who lived in the same complex as the girl."
"I just don't think Kaley would do something like this. But I guess she would," Yenvy frowned. "I hadn't seen her in months...people change, right?"
They do. I had went through my own personal changes. So had Yenvy. So had everyone.
"She was so smug," I said, eating a hot French fry, "Like she..."
"It's okay, hun," Yenvy reached back to pat my leg.
"It's not. This is some serious shit," I argued. "And I feel like you're sidin' with the bitch."
"I don't think she's siding with the girl," Pey stated, "I think she's coming to grips with the fact that one of her friends betrayed her too. Don't forget that you're not the only one who was affected by this."
"I never said I was. But who knows if Yenvy was even drugged- She was drunk as hell."
Yenvy swung into the parking lot, hopping out of the food line. She turned around, yelling, "You know how sensitive I am about my drinking problem!"
"I didn't say you were a drunk, but I'll say it now since you think that this is all about your lil friend betrayin' you," I snapped. "You have lost memories that could have been because of how intoxicated you were. On the other hand, from what y'all have told me, Jadyn was offered a strong mix of a drink by your friend. The last thing I remember is that girl appearing when I was ready to leave the club."
Yenvy's eyes started to water up. "You've had it out for me ever since the whole DND at the park thing. I can't feel like a victim in this situation too? I was there drinking the same shit as Jadyn when she was offered that. And yeah I was drunk too, but I'm also feelin' like everyone fails to see how this was a friend I trusted who allegedly drugged my other friends. I feel like y'all all fail to see how that hurts me too."
"DND at the park, what?" Pey looked at Yenvy, "Hey, what are you talking about?"
"It doesn't matter, right? We're not even together!" Yenvy threw her hands up, "All of this is Eneaj's show! When I've been hit hard with pain for the last five fuckin' months!"
"I'm not trying to make this about me, Yenvy. But I do feel like you tryna say the bitch ain't do the shit that she obviously did," I argued.
"I can't be in shock? If I thought she was capable of doing something like this I wouldn't have been hanging out with her, so obviously this is all hitting me hard right now. I am in shock. Because I did not expect this, nor did I want this any more than the next bitch," she stated.
I shook my head. "I don't have time for this."
"I was worried sick about you. Me and Val. After we realized something was wrong, people were scattered all over Texas and shit, not answerin' they phones. We were the first two worried about you. But this is how you wanna act. Get the fuck outta my vehicle."
"Yenvy, chill. Let her stay. We're all under high stress right now and-
"You can get out too," Yenvy snapped. "Because we were done. I didn't forget deciding that at the club. I only let you come up in here because we were looking for Eneaj." Yenvy unlocked the doors, "She's found, so now y'all two can find your own way to Houston."
I held my food and got out, still wearing the clothes my mom had lended me. Pey got out too, giving Yenvy the finger as she sped off.
"At least she didn't make us give back the food she paid for," Pey shrugged, stealing one of my French fries. I shot her a look, "You got yo own fries. And anyways, how the hell are we supposed to get back to Houston now? I didn't even wanna come back."
I shuddered. "I don't even know if I wanna go back to my own club now..."
Pey gave me a side hug as we faced the freeway, standing in the parking lot. "All this is gonna get better, fam. We just gotta get to Houston to see that."
