The End of the Affair

Carina POV:

Damon was fixing me and him a drink in the living room when my phone rang and I answered, putting it on speaker phone. Rose was looking for Bill Forbes and Jenna had gone to get ready for graduation so it was just me and Damon. 

"You're interrupting our drink." He said and I remembered it was Katherine on the phone, but why had she called me? 

"You miss me?" She cooed at us and we both grimaced. 

"Katherine. Where are you?" Damon asked. 

"Lurking outside your window, pining away." She said and Damon and I exchanged annoyed glances. 

"What do you want?" Damon asked. 

"I'm homesick. What have I missed?" She asked and Damon sighed. 

"Well, Stefan's still Klaus' little prisoner and Elena still thinks she can save him and no one's thought about you since you left." He couldn't help but taunt Katherine at the end. 

"And what about you? I'm sure now that you've given up on your brother, you're plotting some sort of way of moving in on his girlfriend." Katherine said and Damon scowled. 

"I didn't give up on him. I just don't know where he is. And I'm not interested in Elena, I belong with Rose." He snapped and I could tell Katherine was surprised on the other end. 

"Hmm." She murmured and Damon seemed to realize something. 

"But you do. Are you trailing them?" He asked and Katherine snorted. 

"A hybrid who wants me dead, his brother who calls me "the Harlot", and their sidekick who's off the rails? I couldn't be further away." She said and I couldn't help but snort at Finn's nickname for Katherine. Damon also looked amused. 

"Which means you know exactly where they are." He continued. 

"All I know is that Klaus pitched a fit once his hybrids didn't work. Now he's looking for some answers." She told us and a chill went down my spine. Finn and Klaus would figure out Elena was still alive and human soon, plus someone would be seeing Rebekah soon. 

"How do you know that?" Damon asked, glancing at me with alarm. 

"Spend 500 years running, and there will be a few people along the way that are looking out for you." Katherine deflected. Damon and I, however, could see right through her.  

"Is that what you're doing? Looking out for my brother?" He asked. 

"Maybe, maybe not. I'm conflicted." Katherine said, deflecting once again. 

"Where are they?" Damon and I asked.

THIRD PERSON POV (Chicago): 

Klaus, Finn, and Stefan got out of a car and Finn looked around in amazement. This was the biggest city he had ever seen. 

"Welcome back to Chicago, Stefan." Klaus said, gesturing at it. 

"What are we doing here?" Stefan asked, confused and glad they hadn't headed back to Mystic Falls. 

"I know how much you loved it here. Bringing back memories of the good old ripper days?" Klaus asked and Stefan shook his head. 

"Blacked out most of them. A lot of blood, a lot of partying. The details are all a blur." He admitted and Finn looked at him briefly before looking back at Klaus with narrowed eyes, knowing Klaus had gone and done this for a reason. 

"Well, that is a crying shame. The details are what make it legend." Klaus said before turning to Finn to tell him.

Flashback:
