October 31st, 2023

Gabriel stood on the rooftop, the wind blowing through his white-golden kimono. He had been waiting for Samuel for what seemed like hours, his thoughts wandering as he waited. He wondered how many times he had stood on this very rooftop, waiting for Samuel to appear.

As he looked out over the city, Gabriel could see the flickering of candles and lights from the houses below. It was October 31st, the one day of the year when demons and angels could walk freely among the humans. Gabriel's blindfold covered his eyes, but he didn't need to see to know what was happening below.

Suddenly, he heard the sound of footsteps behind him. He turned to see Samuel approaching, his long black coat billowing in the wind. Gabriel's heart raced as Samuel approached, the two of them standing face to face.

"Hello, Gabriel," Samuel said, his deep voice sending shivers down Gabriel's spine. "It's been a long time."

Gabriel hesitated for a moment, unsure of what to say. His relationship with Samuel had been toxic, filled with pain and suffering. But now, as he stood before him, Gabriel couldn't help but feel a sense of longing.

"I...I didn't think you would come," Gabriel said softly.

Samuel smiled, his eyes glinting in the moonlight. "Of course I came. You know I can't resist a chance to see you."

Gabriel looked away, his mind racing with conflicting emotions. He wanted to reach out to Samuel, to wrap his arms around him and hold him close. But he knew that doing so would only lead to more pain.

"I'm sorry," Samuel said suddenly, interrupting Gabriel's thoughts. "For everything. For the way I treated you, for the things I said."

Gabriel felt his heart skip a beat. This was the first time Samuel had ever apologized to him. He looked up at Samuel, meeting his gaze for the first time in years.

"It's not enough," Gabriel said, his voice barely above a whisper. "Not after everything that's happened."

Samuel nodded, his expression solemn. "I know. But it's a start. Please, Gabriel, give me a chance to make things right."

Gabriel hesitated, unsure of what to do. But as he looked into Samuel's eyes, he saw a flicker of something he had never seen before. It was hope.

Without another word, Gabriel stepped forward and wrapped his arms around Samuel, pulling him into a tight embrace. Samuel hesitated for a moment, then wrapped his arms around Gabriel in return.

For a moment, the two of them stood there, locked in an embrace that felt like home. Gabriel could feel Samuel's heartbeat against his chest, could feel the warmth of his body as they held each other close.

Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, Gabriel pulled away from Samuel. He reached down and drew a knife from his shoe pocket, then took Samuel's hand and pressed the blade against his horn.

"I'm sorry," Gabriel whispered, as he cut away a small piece of Samuel's horn. "But I need to go. I can't stay here with you, not yet. But someday...maybe someday we can be together."

As Gabriel stands there on the roof with Samuel, memories flood back to him. He remembers the times when Samuel had hurt him, both physically and emotionally. But as he looks at Samuel now, he can see the remorse in his eyes.

"I'm sorry, Gabriel," Samuel says, his voice heavy with regret. "I know I've hurt you so much in the past. I want to make things right between us."

Gabriel is hesitant at first, but he can see the sincerity in Samuel's words. He takes a deep breath and replies, "I want to believe you, Samuel. But it's going to take time for me to trust you again."

Samuel nods, his expression somber. "I understand. I'll do whatever it takes to earn back your trust, Gabriel. I'm willing to do anything to make up for what I've done."

Gabriel looks at Samuel for a moment before nodding. "Okay, but we have a long way to go before we can fully heal our relationship. It won't happen overnight."

Samuel smiles, relief evident on his face. "I know. I'm willing to be patient."

As they stand there in silence, Gabriel's attention is drawn to Samuel's horn. It's shorter than he remembers, and he realizes that Samuel has cut off another piece. Before he knows it, Gabriel leans in and places a gentle kiss on Samuel's lips.

Samuel looked up at Gabriel, his eyes shining with unshed tears. "I understand," he said softly. "I'll wait for you, Gabriel. I'll always be here, waiting for you."

Gabriel nodded, then turned and leapt off the rooftop, disappearing into the night.
