So here you were one again, facing a human with a death note. Barely any information and the underworld quickly clogging up with souls, MU swamped with reincarnation paperwork and the death gods working overtime.
You knew the culprit was somewhere in Japan again, and that they were likely a fan of the original Kira. You can't be 100% sure until you actually see the death note being used, but it seems like it had been dropped several years ago and just not found until now. Meaning there could me a shinigami attached to it, or the shinigami who dropped it just completely forgot about it and left it.
That was all you had, sure it was early days in the case. But if you wanted to avoid a disaster like last time, you had to act quick. The successors assured L they were working on finding a way to track this guy down, and they'd call him as soon as they had a lead. In the meantime, you and L were trying to figure out if there was a way to track that death note down with magic. Pacing around the gardens of the highlands lost in thought, you scanned through every spell and incantation you'd ever learnt or read about, even back from your days as a minor deity in the aether.
But without a general area to target, you couldn't think of much. Japan was a big place, a whole country. You couldn't just cast a spell on such a wide area and expect accurate results, that was like tossing out a fishing net and expecting it to find one particular type of fish all on its own.
L sat atop one of the pillars, the wind gently blowing his hair out of his face and the feathers on his wings rustled. He'd been quiet today, and not very responsive. You wanted to give him a little space to clear his mind, but now you were getting worried. You looked up at him, he seemed so tired. Emotionally, tired emotionally. It wasn't unusual for him to be physically tired at all. It was like looking at him way back when he was just an image in a life pool to you, before you met him. When he was human and alone, a soul without their soulmate.
"Knock knock"
You turned to face the sudden familiar voice. Hypnos stood at the gates, his baby wrapped in a blanket and flopped over his shoulder asleep.
"I know it's kind of a bad time to be asking favours, but the with the season change mother and I have to pass over the human realm an hour or so earlier now. Can you watch my little cloud for a few hours?" He asked.
"Of course, we never mind watching him. He never gets into trouble, all he does is sleep" you replied.
"Thank you, everyone's been so busy"
Hypnos passed you Morpheus, who didn't even flinch when he changed hands and just stayed dozed off on your shoulder. Every night Nyx and Hypnos would pass over the skies and bring night and sleepiness to the humans, all they had to do was fly over the lands and allow the darkness and stars to follow them. With each rotation of the earth every 24 hours, they'd cast their magic over the lands and allow humans a good nights rest. When Morpheus was old enough, he'd join them and cast pleasant dreams unto the mortals.
It was to he expected that as the godling got a better hold of his powers, the humans would start having clearer and more frequent dreams.
Hypnos looked up at the pillar L sat on, able to sense his emotional exhaustion.
"He needs a nap..." Hypnos sighed.
"I think he wants a whole coma. I've given him some space to think but I'm getting worried... he's been so quiet" you replied.
"Just talk to him, he could never stay silent to you. You're his muse (y/n), he'll open up"
He was right, L's never pushed you away before. Why would he start now? You'd given him some alone time so now you should check in on him and make sure he was ok.
