"So, this is the guy Hm?"
Mikami looked up at the much taller and more imposing god, Hades looked down at him with a snide glare and crossed arms.
"Yep, I assume you've already sorted his punishment?" You replied.
"Yes, Tisiphone has been informed. She'll handle him" Hades confirmed.
Now that he was standing in the underworld, having stepped through a rip in the realm you'd opened straight down to the house of hades, it was starting to sink in. Although the delusion Mikami was under was still strong, the fear was starting to creep in. Especially because there was a giant three headed dog sitting beside Hades desk, eyeing him down.
"You two know where to find Light, once you've shown him the state of the man he calls a god, bring him back here and I'll handle it from there. Tis will be very pleased with her new plaything" Hades explained.
"Understood" L replied.
Tisiphone, one of the three furies, was actually quite nice... to other gods that is. To murderers she was merciless, brutal. Her whip one of the most painful weapons in the underworld, and her echoing voice would ring in the ears of those she tortured. No murderer went unpunished at her hand, she'd given Light many lashings in his time in the underworld. But Mikami was unaware of who exactly the furies were and what they did. So hearing he'd be punished by one, filled him with both confusion and dread.
"And you, shinigami. I'll need to have a chat with you about this later" Hades said, glaring angrily up at Shidoh.
"Yeah ok, whatever" he replied, unfazed.
Hades just scoffed at the apathy, waving him off and rolling his eyes. You put a stern hand on Mikami's shoulder and began to push him in the direction you'd be heading, making him walk.
"Move it, mortal" you said.
Mikami walked alongside you and L, Shidoh following behind. You made your way down the halls of the house, passing by the chambers of worker shades and the rooms belonging to Hades family. Laughter was echoing down one of the halls, drunken revelry. To mikami it sounded like demonic mockery, but to you and L you knew it was just Zagreus and his favourite cousin Dionysus getting shitfaced in the lounge. Their booming godly voices normal to you and L, but foreign to Mikami.
Opening the doors at the end of the hall revealed a staircase leading out into the underworld, Elysium to be exact. The nice part, but you'd not be there for long. Hitching a ride down the rivers from Charon, you made your way into Tartarus, where the chambers weaved almost maze like, and the screams of the tortured souls could be heard in the distance. As well as the occasional booming of the famous boulder of Sisyphus rolling back down that hill and crashing into the ground at the bottom.
It was dark, rustic and eerie. Mikami was really starting to feel the dread now. But his blind faith, it kept him on his feet.
"Fuck this place is so unsettling" you muttered under your breath.
"I know... I'll never get used to it" L replied.
You didn't come down here often, you had no reason to. Whenever you came into the underworld it was to the house of hades, to Asphodel to see Watari, or Erebus to see Hypnos and Thanatos. All far away from the depths of Tartarus. But you knew the way to Lights chambers, it was the only reason you ever came down to Tartarus, to make sure he wasn't getting any escape ideas.
Although rather than going to the entrance like you usually did, today you'd be going over to the overhang above said chambers to look down in on the tortured soul. You didn't want Light actually talking to Mikami, with his god complex and Mikami's blind faith, it'd end badly. So instead you turned up the path, walked up the steps and came to stop at the edge of the overhang. Down in the chambers, behind the glass roof was Light. He looked like a wreck, and admittedly that made L crack a smile.
"You see, Mikami. That is the man you call god" you said.
Mikami looked down, gazing upon the absolutely broken state of the original Kira. Inside those chambers, Light was cursed to die the same deaths of his victims, over and over again. He'd have a heart attack, maybe he'd attack himself with zero control to stop it, maybe he'd feel the impact of a car crash, then he'd heal up and it'd happen again. Over, over, over. And whenever he had an attitude about it, it was Tisiphone's turn to give him a good lashing. He was disheveled, exhausted, not even fighting back anymore. He just lay there, suffering heart attack after heart attack, regenerating, and dying again.
"He is cursed to feel the same deaths he dealt out. Every heart attack, every suicide, every car accident, every slip and fall. Over and over, for the rest of eternity. When the list runs out, it just starts again. Over 10,000 deaths, he will experience not just once not twice, even three times. Forever. This is what happens when you play god as a mortal, when you kill not for a new world but for your own sick pleasure" L explained.
Mikami stared down at Light, horrified. This was the original Kira? This was his god? So weak and defeated he can't even fight back?
"Oh this'll be good..." Shidoh muttered.
"K-Kira...?" He muttered.
"No, Light. Light Yagami. The man who caused me so much trouble, I was the one who wrote his name in that god forsaken book. I was the one that ended the Kira case, because I'm a detective and god of justice before anything else, and what he did, what you did for him. It's a crime, an unforgivable one" L explained, looking down at Mikami with an intense glare that could stop hearts in fear.
"N-no... you're lying. Kira he- god can't be-" Mikami stammered.
"He is no god, he's just a murderer. Just like you" you cut him off.
Light ceased up for a moment, feeling the pain of a heart attack once again, before he took a breath once more and only moments later did he cease up and have a heart attack again. Mikami felt his world crumbing around him. This was Kira? This? His god was a mortal in a pit of Tartarus being punished forever? There was no way! Right?
"B-but Kira he, he chose me! He told me to continue his mission! There was going to be a new world, one free from crime and hate-" Mikami rambled.
"Again, there is no Kira. Just Light Yagami with a god complex and a notebook. And look at him now, pathetic" L scoffed.
"But... but..."
It seems he finally understood, or at least was starting to. Everyone he'd killed, all the blind worship, it was for nothing. He'd become the one thing he swore to get rid of, a criminal. A mass murderer to be exact.
"There has to be something wrong! Kira chose me I know he did! I only did this because he asked me to by letting me find the notebook!" Mikami rambled.
"It was pure chance you found that book. But no one will ever again. Now if you've seen enou-" you began.
"THERE NEEDS TO BE SOME EXCEPTION! I'm no murderer, I'm a warrior of KIRA, for a better world. The real Kira, not this... guy"
L sighed in frustration, how long would it take to get through to him?" Wasn't this proof enough.
"You know what? Fine. If you want solid proof, more proof than the absolute state of the man you call a god... I'll give you that proof. (Y/n), we need to talk to Hades about transferring him to the Egyptian underworld for a moment" L sighed.
You immediately saw where this was going. If mikami wanted proof he was guilty, then he'd get that proof and he'd not be able to deny any longer. If he wanted to know the full truth about how fucked he was... he'd have to take the weighing of the heart.
