Chapter 47 | finality

Anubis stood before Mikami, who'd simply dropped to his knees and stayed completely silent. His whole world had crumbled around him. Faced with the undeniable fact that he had become exactly what he wanted to fed rid of. Evil.

Kira didn't exist, he was no god. He was a busted up dead guy stuck in a pit in Tartarus. He'd been worshiping nothing, no one. The mere idea of a unobtainable goal, and in the process he'd become what he hated. A murderer. A mass murderer. The blood of thousands was on his hand, and there was no way to cleanse himself of those sins.

"As I thought, nothing to say. L, (y/n) you may leave. I shall deal with the rest myself. You don't need to see the devouring. You've done enough just getting him here, spare yourselves and simply celebrate the victory" Anubis said.

"Much appreciated, thank you" you replied, taking L's hand and turning to leave.

When the doors closed behind you, and you began to walk hand in hand up the hallway back to the underworlds entrance to leave, L finally spoke.

"Finally..." he sighed, under his breath.

"I know, finally. Never again" you replied.

"Weeeell wasn't that interesting"

You both stopped and turned to look over your shoulders up at Shidoh, who had decided he was done with Mikami now he was about to meet his fate. Instead, following you and L.

"You're getting in the shit too you know? You can run off back to the shinigami realm but the death kami are absolutely going to be up there to roast you and your kind" you said.

"Yeah, yeah. Well, it's been interesting. I see why Ryuk was so into watching you humans now" Shidoh replied.

"Well, watch from your realm next time. Don't pull this shit again" L added, slight annoyance in his tone.

"Yeah whatever. Guess I'll see you guys some other time then, it's been interesting"

And with that, off he went. Through the ceilings and no doubt back up to his own realm. What a weird guy, like a diet Ryuk. Well, it was over now. You didn't have to worry about him anymore, or any shinigami for that matter.

"I think... I think I need a nap after all that" L sighed.

"To Hypnos?" You replied.

"To Hypnos"

He'd either be in his chambers down in Erebus or up in the highlands. You decided to check the highlands first, while you were there announce that it was all finally over to the rest of the kami and the successors. And later when you'd take a trip down to Asphodel to see Watari.

"Hey" you spoke up.

"Hm?"

L looked over to you, he seemed exhausted. The victory didn't feel as thrilling as last time, because a second Kira case wasn't something anyone wanted in the first place.

"I'm proud of you" you smiled.

He smiled back, clearly tired. But of course, still glad to hear such praise from you.

"Thank you. I'm proud of you too" he replied.

"I wasn't the one who lost my dad mid case, you've done we'll despite the circumstances"

L simply rested his head on your shoulder, wrapping an arm around you to hold you close. The starry substance his true form was made from swirled and swished when he moved, but it came still when he stayed leaning against you.
