Chapter 25 | beauty

You could hardly believe your eyes, watching the twinkle of the cascading glittery substance that fell from his wings you were mesmerised. So this is what L's truest for was... it was beautiful.

"Honey you look... amazing..." you awed.

"I feel kind of different, but I can't really pin point what it is" L replied.

You circled him, taking in the details. Being able to see his glowing heart beating inside him and the way his hair floated around his shoulders was an almost dream like sight. As if he wasn't already the most beautiful man you'd ever seen, now he was a whole new level of Ethereal.

"And it happened because of strong emotions?" You asked.

"That's what Aph thinks, makes me wonder if that will trigger you too. Or if you have something different to me, I really want to see your truest form" L replied.

"If only I knew. I want to know what it is as well, I guess I just have it what and see"

Before L came back down to the taskforce, he and Aphrodite spent a little time getting to know this new form and what it could do. L figured out how to shift between his more human like one and this one, it was mainly through channeling emotions. And he also figured out that the transparent substance he was made up of in this form could pass through objects. He could walk through a wall if he wanted too, or he could make himself solid and touch it instead. They figured this was his form because justice requires transparency, and having his heart beating and visible was a sign of love.

"I'm proud of you, even if this wasn't exactly the way you intended on discovering it you still did. And you look gorgeous" you smiled.

"Thanks... It'll take some getting used to but I'm not exactly opposed to this form..." he replied, looking down at his arms.

It was almost like he was made from stars, but not in the same way Nyx and Hypnos were. While Nyx was like a chunk of the night sky, and Hypnos was like stars and clouds mixed together, L was more... like stats floating in some kind of liquid. Like a lava lamp of stars.

And the way his heart and eyes glowed golden, and it made him illuminated and lit up. He still had eyebags even in this form though, that was just a permanent part of him at this point.

"I love you, you know? You never fail to amaze me" you smiled.

"I love you too honey, I bet your truest form will be even prettier than mine" he replied, placing a kiss against your lips.

Even in this form, he was still warm to the touch and tasted sweet and felt loving. No matter what form he took, L was always going to be L. Your husband, your soulmate.

"Weee'rreee baaack!"

The two of you turned to the doorway, where the successors had just come back from running a few errands. As soon as they put down their bags and turned to face you, they stopped in their tracks seeing L.

"Dude-" Matt said.

"What the hell happened? I mean, it's cool as fuck but bro-" Mello added.

"Found my truest form, accidentally triggered it with strong emotions" L replied.

Immediately they were all over L, taking in the details and looking at all the moving sparkles he seemed to create from thin air. Near ran their fingers though the cascading stars that fell from his wings, a slight tingle when they touched them.

"You can still fly like this? Even without feathers?" They asked.

"Not sure how but yes. Then again I don't really question magic it just does what it likes" L replied.

"Bro... you're like, see through" Matt muttered, trying to put his hand through L only to have it touch his shoulder.

"I can phase through solid objects too, guess I'm a ghost now"

L couldn't help but snicker at the boys (and Nears) fascination, despite being raised amongst gods they still awed at magic. Especially magic they'd never seen before.

"Dude that's so cool, it's like you're a walking... I dunno lava lamp?" Mello said.

You snickered, that was certainly one way to describe it.

"It kind of reminds me of the river Lethe, how that glows and has motion" you said.

"If only I had the powers of Lethe, I'd be unstoppable" L replied.

"You'd actually be able to sleep without Hypnos' help for once"

This new form was not only good for L as a whole, but with the extra power it gave him it'd probably be useful in the case as well. Phasing through objects meant he could sneak into places no other person could. Which may be needed when you eventually located the death note.

That was the main problem you faced at the moment. You still couldn't see the book anywhere even with Mikami under 24 hour watch. People were still dying and he had been seen writing on death note paper, but the actual book was nowhere to be seen. He must have taken some of the paper out and hidden the book very well. But he'd need to go back for more paper eventually, so you had hope you'd find it soon.

"Can (y/n) trigger theirs the same way?" Near asked.

"Not sure, I'd have to wait until I get a particularly strong emotion to try that" you replied.

"What would yours even look like. I get why L formed the way he did, but what does a love deities true form look like?" Matt asked.

You shrugged, you genuinely had no idea. You couldn't really use Aphrodite as a reference because she's not just love but beauty and femininity too. So her trust form is just an extremely beautiful woman. Which she is all the time anyway. And for Eros, who represents sexual love his true form is... well, a hot naked guy. Then there's Hathor who is also associated with animals and fertility so her form includes animals...

You were love as a whole, all kinds of love. Romantic, familial, platonic, sexual, self love. So you had no idea what your true form could look like. How do you represent love? The entirety of love? How can you fit something so broad into one image?

Whether it was, you just hoped it was something you found comfortable and represented you. And something that could compliment and contrast with L, so the whole world can tell you are Devine lovers, soulmates. Bound together for centuries before and centuries to come.

As long as you represented love and all it's joys and beauty, any look was fine with you.
