Just as Morpheus dreamt, it was finally happening. You and L had watched Mikami leave the house in a seemingly manic state, and he was on the move toward a shrine located up in the mountains. No doubt, to try and reach Kira. As you and L had decided, you'd take him in here.
After a chat with Hades about his punishment, it was decided that he'd be punished as a murderer by Tisiphone the fury. The psychological punishment would be the the mental breakdown he was absolutely about to suffer when he realised that his god didn't actually exist. You were going to use his faith against him. As for the human realm? You'd decided to leave them with no solid answer. You didn't want the humans knowing about the death notes, so rather than taking the case to court where you'd have to show the weapon, and thus prove the supernatural, you'd simply let the Kira case die out into a cold case. While cold cases pained L to his soul, the detective in him needing to see everything solved properly, he knew this was best.
Technically Mikami still had some lifespan left, but just this once you were going to cut that short. Not kill him, just take him into the underworld where eventually his body would accumulate and he'd become a shade like all the dead down there. Everyone has agreed that just this once, they'd break the rules of death. Why? Because you and every other god was done with this Kira nonsense. Once was enough, but twice? It had driven everyone insane.
You and L sat atop the torii gates of the shine, watching Mikami walk up the stairs to the main temple. Neither of you visible to him yet, he walked right under you with no idea you were there.
"True forms?" L asked.
"Obviously, we need to really break his mind" you replied.
"If it was anyone else, I'd feel bad"
It may be seen as a but cruel to break someone's mind like this, but he was a murderer with an already broken one. This was his punishment, Light had it worse, Mikami was lucky he wasn't getting the same punishment.
The absolute mess of a man stood before the shrine, no one else around as this was such a secluded one. As was typical for Japanese prayer, he clapped his hands once, then twice and held them together.
"Kira, I don't know why you revoked my death note but I swear to you I'll fix whatever mistake I've made. I am but your humble warrior of the new world, I will worship you until the day I die. Please, allow me to continue. Give me some kind of sign, some kind of message. Whatever I did, I'll fix it and continue to work for you, and I apologise deeply" he rambled.
You and L exchanged glances, you knew he was in a state of religious delusion but this was wild. He was truly completely enamoured with Kira.
"Ooo I can tell this is going to be good"
You expected Shidoh to show up, he'd perched next to you and L on the torii gate watching the human he was currently attached to ramble.
"You were no help" you scoffed.
"Not like I did this on purpose dude, I totally forgot about that notebook until he picked it up" Shidoh said.
"You still dropped it in the first place, even if it was years and years ago" L replied.
The shinigami just shrugged, he truly didn't care. He almost gave Ryuk a run for his money in the 'not caring' department. Sometimes you wished to be as apathetic as shinigami, they truly had no worries in the world.
"Well, this is ending today. Pack your stuff for the shinigami realm... unless Hades wants to do something with you for causing this mess" you said, getting up.
L took your hand and got up too, both of you gliding off the gate and over to mikami, who still droned on to Kira. You both stood on the offering box before him, and keeping your hands locked together you gave each other a nod of understanding.
"Let's end this, for good" you said.
"I'm ready, should we speak all fancy just for the fun of it?" L replied.
"Absolutely"
If you were going f be taking such actions as pulling a a mortal to the underworld before their time was up, you may as well have fun with it. Shidoh would be eating popcorn if he had any, he felt like he was watching some kind of soap opera. The drama was rife and he was throughly entertained.
"This'll be good..." he laughed.
Together, you and L shifted into your truest forms. The first time you'd done so as a couple, and in the process it made you visible to Mikami. In a momentary burst of light, your bodies shifted into their purest forms as deities. L's almost galaxy like body and wings, and your swan lake like appearance. Your hearts glowing visible through your chests. Mikami looked up at the two of you, robes gently blowing in the breeze and godly forms glowing to his eyes. He stared in a stunned silence for a moment, his heart raced and the gears turned in his mind.
"Kira?" He questioned.
"Don't mistake us for a false god. Teru Mikami you have made a grave, grave mistake" L began.
"Kira doesn't exist. I am (y/n), deity of love and my husband here is Lawliet, god of justice. And you... you've displeased the kami" you replied.
Clearly Mikami had no idea who you were, or about any of your mythos because he seemed confused. But the presence of kami right before him proved to him that gods did exist, and he was in his mind 'correct'.
"I can fix it! I can please Kira, I just need the death note back. I promise I'll-" he began.
"Silence" L cut him off.
Mikami fell silent, not daring to disrespect a god. Someone who he assumed was a messenger of Kira, since you appeared as he was praying to him.
"Again, there is no Kira. The entity you worship is just a name, a name for a pathetic mortal that now resides in Tartarus being eternally punished for his crimes. A fate you will soon endure as well" you continued.
"N-no, Kira is real. He chose me to cleanse the world! He told me himself by giving me the death note-" Mikami ranted.
"It was pure chance, the fault of that shinigami attached to you that you found that death note. There was no grand plan, nor any new world. Kira doesn't exist, he never did. And by blindly believing it, you've condemned yourself" L explained.
Mikami was silent, trying to process this and wrap his head around it. Two gods he'd never heard of appear before him, tell him his god isn't real and he's committed great sins. How does one even react to that? He felt confused, offended and denial.
"You- liars! I know Kira exists. I know he's real and this is just some test! You cannot sway me, I know I'm his chosen one! I'll do anything to regain his favour, I promise Kira! I promise!" Mikami stammered out.
You and L gave each other a glance, cringing at his worlds.
"Very well then, we'll prove it. Teru Mikami you're coming with us to see the true state of the man you call 'Kira" you said.
He still wasn't getting it, the fact he got to 'meet Kira' had him lit up, exited almost.
"Take me to him! Let me prove my loyalty" he exclaimed.
L wanted to smack this man with his gavel hearing that blind worship for a man that made his life hell, that traumatised him and all his loved ones. But he refrained, he knew what Mikami was about to see would be punishment enough.
"Very well... but you will not like what you see. Know this, Mikami. Your blind faith, it will be your downfall..."
