When a godling still doesn't have a full grasp on their powers, anything can happen. From accidentally putting the whole highlands into a slumber like Hypnos did as a child, to accidentally shooting the wrong person with a love arrow like Eros did.

Sometimes it causes disaster, but luckily most of the time it was just a minor inconvenience. Although for Morpheus, it was a strange position. His power over dreams was still developing, and that meant even he didn't know what his dreams meant sometimes.

In his room connected to Hypnos' everything has been perfectly crafted for him by his family. From the stuffed animals Hypnos made, to the protective mobile above the bed gifted by his uncle Thanatos. And of course the galaxy night light Nyx made using her magic. It was dimly lit, cosy and smelt of relaxing lavender. Perfect environment for dreams go come to life.

Having woken up from a rather strange dream that stressed the godling out a little, he picked up his favourite teddy and crawled out of bed into his fathers room. Hypnos was no stranger to sleep, he could sleep as deep as a coma at will and lay knocked out in his bed silky bed. Nothing could wake him if he pit himself in a sleep that deep. But there was one expectation, his son could always wake him. No matter what. He'd never want to leave his child alone to deal with something scary by himself, so even in the deepest sleep rituals Morpheus could wake up his dad for anything.

He climbed into the bed, gently shaking Hypnos' arm.

"Dada..." he muttered.

Instantly Hypnos was pulled from his enchanted slumber, and he stirred awake pulling his eye mask up.

"What's up my little lamb?" He muttered, seeing his son looking down at him.

"I had a weird dream... it was kind of scary..." Morpheus replied.

Hypnos sat up, slightly alarmed. He shouldn't be having nightmares yet, he hadn't passed that power on yet. He pulled the godling into his arms and cradled him gently.

"What happened? Explain it to me?" Hypnos asked.

"There was a man, he looked kind of mean. And he was writing something really angrily, over and over again. He kept muttering to himself about gods and justice..." the godling described.

Hypnos was silent a moment, given the circumstances he couldn't help but wonder if this had something to do with the new Kira. Aggressive writing, justice, gods..? Sounded like it. If the fates weren't involved like they said then it can't be them sending their nephew a prophetic dream. But sometimes the universe would just give people prophesies for seemingly no reason, Kahos worked in mysterious ways.

And for the god of dreams to be picking up on these things, wouldn't be that much of a stretch. He was literally dreams incarnate.

"Hmm... interesting..." Hypnos muttered.

He made a mental note to tell you and L about this. And to keep an eye on his sons mysterious dreams from now on.

"Dada have you ever been scared?" Morpheus asked.

"Many times my daydream, it's part of life. But you always overcome it" Hypnos replied.

"When where you the most scared?"

To a child, their parents seem like superheroes. Like they were never scared of anything and could protect them from everything. Morpheus couldn't imagine his dad being scared, even though he knew everyone got scared sometimes.

"When I lost my wing, I was only about your age. But grandma Nyx protected me, just like I'd protect you when you're scared" Hypnos replied.

"Was it ouchie?" Morpheus asked.

"Very ouchie. But it's been centuries now and I don't feel it anymore"

Hypnos didn't like talking about his missing wing, most people knew what happened by now but the memory hurt. He'd never been more terrified in his life, and he'd never been in more pain than he was that day. But he wanted his baby to know that even the worst situations will pass and it's ok to be scared and confused. And that he'd protect him no matter what.

"Don't be scared of dreams ok? They're all just imaginary. Even when it's a prophetic one, it's not actually happening to you, it's just an illusion" Hypnos assured.

"I know, sometimes weird dreams make me feel icky though. It goes away after a while, but in the moment it's creepy" Morpheus replied.

"That's ok, everyone experiences that sometimes. It'll pass, and when you grow and get better at your powers you probably won't even feel it anymore you'll be so used to all kind of dreams"

The godling yawned, still tired and not fully rested yet. He leaned into Hypnos' chest and his little wings fluttered.

"Dada, can I stay with you? You can make us sleepy and have nice dreams?" He asked.

"Of course baby, even when you're as big as me you can still come cuddle when you're scared" Hypnos replied.

He pulled the blankets back up and held his child close, protective arms around him and gently stroking his hair.

"Can I have lullaby?" Morpheus asked.

Hypnos smiled, he really did take after him... Hypnos adored lullabies from his mother when he was a child. Sleep and dreams really do stay connected no matter what, even through the smallest details.

"Close your eyes
Have no fear
The monster's gone
He's on the run and your daddy's here
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
Beautiful boy
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
Beautiful boy..."

It didn't take much for the godling to drift back to sleep in his fathers arms. Listening to his voice sing about his much he loved him.

Hypnos made sure to keep a mental note to tell you and L about these dreams. He was sure that Morpheus was seeing glimpses of this Kira, either by magic he can't control yet and he's gotten very lucky tuning into it. Or the universe itself wants him to know. Although that may not sound as crazy as it seems. Morpheus was the great grandchild of Khaos, the creator of everything and the universe itself. While Khaos barely ever intervened with their creations, simply sitting back and watching, they did care for their family.

Hypnos and his child were part of that family.

Something else Hypnos pondered on as he drifted back to sleep was just how much he loved his son. And how he could never bare to see him die. It made him think of L, three children and none of them were immortal.

Even if they lived long lives, L would still have to face their deaths one day if they never became immortalised. But there were so few ways for a human to reach that point, you and L were extremely rare occurrences in the world. Hypnos knew as a father that L would be completely destroyed if something happened to Mello, Matt and Near...

Maybe he should look into some solutions for that on L's behalf. A thank you for all the times he's babysat Morpheus.
