An excuse to play salon on Nears gorgeous white hair? Absolutely. Back down at wammys to check in on the successors and the case, you and L were helping out as much as you could with tracking down an exact location in Japan this Kira was.

You jumped at the chance to give Near a fun hairstyle, so you dropped everything to get a brush and some ribbons. They had such pretty hair, long, soft, wavy and pristine white. It wasn't common for natural white hair to happen in humans, Near was lucky. As you worked your magic weaving their hair into long plats, they continued to work with the others.

Up on the computers they all scanned through every single death that had occurred so far looking for the most common place of death. The idea was it'd be likely Kira would be seeing reports on crimes from their local news outlets. And if you could figure out what prefecture I'd Japan the most deaths occurred in, it was likely that was the location.

This Kira was crafty, they made sure there were several international cases and criminals being targeted each day. But region locked content was a factor, it would be harder to get your hands on more obscure cases from overseas because of language barriers and websites being region locked. It made sense that he'd have the most access to cases reported on in Japanese, within Japan. He could go out if his way to look for obscure international cases yes, but given the fact he needs a face and name to kill he'd have to spend extra time looking for both the name and photos of international criminals on the side of the internet he can't read. With the strict schedule he has, there's no way he was spending time doing that.

"Ok there's two possible options here..." Matt spoke up, catching everyone's attention.

Looking over at his screen, he'd run the stats through a program to identify the most common location of death.

"There's 50 deaths in Osaka, and another 50 in Shinjuku. They're tied for most deaths. I'd say if we give it another day or so and see which one of those goes up, we'll have our place" He explained.

"As much as I wish people didn't have to die for that data... you're right. And hey, if it's Osaka..." L replied.

"Oh my god you're right, we have insider info about Osaka" Mello gasped, connecting the dots.

Several years before the original Kira, L worked on a case in Japan involving a bio terrorist group known as blue ship. He ended up having to rescue an at the time 10 year old girl, and because she lost both parents in that case she ended up exactly where you were right now. Wammys house. You'd met her a few times, she was very smart and for someone who knew zero English when she first arrived, she improved her language skills very very fast. Languages and math were her thing, she could speak several fluently and knew how to solve any equation you could think of.

And where was she from? Osaka. She grew up there, she even knew Misa before she debuted as a idol.

"Is she here right now?" L asked.

"Yeah she hasn't left wammys yet. She wants to do some extra studies before going out into the world" Mello replied.

"Hang on I'll go get her" Matt said, getting up to go find her.

Last you saw her she was probably 14, she'd be about 16 now. Man... all the kids around you were growing up so fast.

It took all of two seconds for her to rush down the halls when Matt told her L was back, and the familiar face practically kicked the doors in and jumped on him.

"L!" She smiled.

"Maki! Oh my gods you're tall now..." L replied, returning the hug.

She had grown, she was almost as tall as L having overtaken the boys in height. Her hair was longer, she'd re-styled it too into curtain bangs rather than a straight cut.
