"Bethany who?" I was shocked beyond the words I managed to utter.

"My 'cousin' Bethany" he told me.

"She's some kind of gossip?" I pushed for more.

"I wish" he laughed once without humor.  "She's dangerous"

    "Dangerous... How?"

"That's all I can tell you, do not trust anyone"

"Even my family?" I asked angrily.

"Especially your family" he stared at me intently as his works sunk in.

I could trust my own family? My parents? Surely he had to be wrong... Or delusional.

"I'm not crazy or delusional" he told me.

Holy Crab! Did he just read my mind?

     "H-how?"

"That was something you used to say a lot" the look on his eyes were faraway, at another time.

    "You knew me?"

"See you around Katrina" he jumped out of our window noiselessly.

I woke up earliest that Sunday. Okay, truth be told, They had already left for church before me.

My parents never attended church before- I grasped my head as it began pounding.

After a glass of water,I recovered. A knock on the door broke me from my reverie.

    "Good morning" Bethany smiled happily.

"Hi Beth, Hey Philip" I smiled at them both in spite of my headache.

Philip only responded with a subtle nod.

I replayed yesterdays events in my mind.

Philip was actually nice to me.
He warned me too.

Kyle was in some kind of trouble and my family was playing among us.

   "Let's go?" Philip said impatiently.

I frowned at him "You go ahead, Bethany and I would join you later"

"No!" He nearly screamed. Then kept his cool "Bethany, Mother Rosé told me she wanted to speak to you"

     "Oh!"

"I'll meet you two at the church!"

"Goodbye Beth" I waved at her

    "Bye Karissa!" She skipped away.

     "What was that for?"

"Walk with me" was all he said.

    "What's the problem now?"

"Do not mention any word of our talk yesterday to my cousin"

    "Why?" I asked.

    "Did you forget that easily?"
I remembered all right! When he warned me to be careful of his nice cousin.

    "I didn't"

"Then do not ask-" he whispered.

"Philip?" I asked him "what's really going on!"

" I can't tell you" he quickened his steps till we reached the church on the hill.

I sat down beside Paris and tried my best not to ran away screaming.

The clergyman, a creepy old guy that looked like he knew Methuselah personally preached on and on about witches.

There was an eerie silence when we got to the sermon about the dead.

Some people glared at as while others looked sadly at each other.
The people of high peaks we wierd!
"For it is appointed unto a man, that he may die once. But thereafter he receives judgement" he quoted from the bible.

I pondered on what to do about Kyle. He had left home and I missed him. Terribly.

I didn't even notice it when my hand tracing some figures written on the obsolete wooden chairs. I almost fainted when I looked at what my fingers unconsciously traced
