"Now, what did you mean asking for her hand? Like... are you asking her to give you a hand with something?" My dad damn near choked out.

I laughed out loudly at his stupidity and gave Nate's hand that I was still holding onto from the back seat, another comforting squeeze before letting go.

"Dad, come on... you said we could discuss it later. My kid will rat me out to her if he hears me say the other word. He's smart as hell," I said, flicking my eyes from David over to the rearview mirror, and looking into those identical chocolate brown eyes that I loved the fucking most.

Nathan smiled broadly at me, then turned his head to look out the window and his eyes lit up with excitement. He was familiar with his surroundings and knew exactly why we were here.

My dad cleared his throat, "Right, ahh... sorry, I'm just taken aback by this random decisio—"

"With all due respect, it's not random. I love her with everything in me and I can't miss this opportunity to have her forever," I said, and looked him directly in the eyes. We stared at each other hard, studying facial expressions.

"Okay, son. I support your decision, as long as you're sure..." His voice trailed off and I already knew what was creating the uncertainty for him -- the tension that had existed ever since our lives intertwined.

Okay, so we didn't have many people rooting for us but I gave a fúck about that, just as much as I gave a fuck about fucking my stepsister. That was how it had always been for me. Even when it was bad, it was still good and as long as it was Sienna and I, what else was there to focus on?

Well, now we had Nathan and of course he was the best part. We had this amazing little guy which we both came together to create. Half of her and half of me, I would've never thought I'd see the day.

"Daddy! What flavor ice cream are you gonna get?" Nate inquired, thumping his tiny legs against his car seat. He could barely contain his excitement. My dad jumped out of the car before I could answer and threw open Nate's door, freeing him from the car.

I squinted in the sunlight and followed him closely as we walked from the car toward the small ice cream stand. It was too damn small for all of the business it was attracting, that was for sure.

We were going to be standing and waiting for a while.

"Daddy! What flavor?" Nate urged me again and I snapped myself from my thoughts.

"I'm sorry, Nate. Daddy is very distracted... ahh, I don't know, I may try... caramel pecan. That sounds delicious!" I told him, making sure I didn't lack enthusiasm.

Nate let go of his papa's hand and stepped up to me, raising his arms. I picked my baby boy up and instantly kissed his skin. I loved him so much, I didn't think my heart could take it some days.

"That's okay, Daddy. I know you miss Mommy, but we're gonna see her very soon! I know that whenever I miss her, I call her and it makes me feel better to hear her voice," he said sweetly. Damn, my kid just politely schooled me on how to call your girlfriend if you miss her so much. Duh.

My dad interjected with a hearty chuckle, "That's some real good advice you gave your dad. I think you could become a therapist or maybe even a doctor!"

Nate's eyes lit up, "Really?"

"Of course, Dr. Nate," he boasted and Nathaniel couldn't keep in his excited squeals.

"Doctor Nate, I love the sound of that. You're already a natural, helping me understand my feelings," I said.

Nate grinned proudly, "Thanks, but you should still call Mommy. You look so sad without her here, Daddy. I think it will make you feel better."
