Onward!

This moment went to prove that I really had never been so desperate in my entire life.
My smile widened as I walked into the small deli shop and saw Mason standing in the line, ordering his food.
I walked over to him and poked his side, earning a weird side eye from people.
"What the-- Sienna! Hey, thanks for inviting me here! What do you want to eat?" He asked me, pulling me into him for a side hug.
"Hey, Mason. It's good to see you. I'll have a turkey avocado club on a brioche bun, please," I told the cashier. They put in my order with his and handed us a number plate.
Mason guided us to a small booth by the window. We settled into our seats and he just stared at me, smiling.
"Oh, here--" I pulled out a ten dollar bill and handed it to him.
He stared at it, "I already paid for it, Sienna."
"And I appreciated it, but now I'm paying you back. Please," I added in politely.
Grumbling, he snatched the bill from me and shoved it into his pocket.
"Wow, it's so good to see you outside of the facility. How was the treatment?" I smiled at him encouragingly.
"It was pretty dàmn awesome. Better than the ones I'd been in as a teen. I feel like I'm in a better head space," He admitted.
I beamed at him, "That's great. I'm so happy for you."
And I meant it... I also felt awful for what I was about to say next.
Mason nodded and looked at me nervously, "I don't mean to sound rude, but why did you invite me to lunch? I can't imagine that it's really that easy for you to be around me."
"It can be difficult sometimes. I get slightly anxious, but I know deep down that you're a good guy and when I think of us being good friends, it makes me feel a little better," I told him honestly.
I tried to ignore the fact that he looked content by that, but also disappointed.
"So, what did you want to discuss?" He asked.
Okay, Sienna. Just do it. Rip the bandage off.
I took a deep breath, "A few weeks ago, I found out that I'm pregnant."
His expression was comical, until I watched him process it fully in his head.
He knew the baby wasn't his.
"Please, Sienna. Tell me you're joking," was his stiff response.
"No, Mason. I'm not. I made a mistake and now that it's here, I don't want to get rid of it. I'm following through with the pregnancy."
He shook his head, "How could you be so stupid?"
"Excuse me?" I snapped, but then had to catch myself.
I couldn't blame him, because I was stupid -- and I was about to get even stupider.
Mason frowned, "I don't mean to be rude, but I don't exactly see Zedlin anywhere, so I'm assuming he doesn't give a shìt or that he doesn't know."
"He doesn't know. I haven't been keeping up with you about everything going on, but long story short; some things went down and Zedlin came to help me and got into trouble. He's back in jail for five years, minimum... I think."
