"dcs! i know you're in there!" jj shouted as he approached the chateau. tanner swatted at his arm.
jj ran onto the porch and jumped onto the e window sill and scared john b. "gotcha slick."
"jj, that wasn't nice." jj sent her a blank stare. "you would've done the same."

"i don't see why you don't at least try with kiara. she clearly likes you."
at jj's words, tanner made a face of discomfort. was she jealous? no. she couldn't be jealous. kie was her bestfriend. thats it.
"can we not talk about kie and john b." tanner was ignored but jj was confused as to why tanner seemed uncomfortable.
the two boys, mainly jj, continued to talk about kie 'liking' john b until they got to lana grubbs. at least tanner thinks that what they talked about, she zoned out halfwat there.
"you know this house looks like whoever lives here smokes too much weed." john b said and his two friends agreed with him.
as they were walking, they heard glass shattering and yelling coming from inside the house and it became even louder as john b forced tanner and jj to dunk underneath a nearby flowerbed to listen in on what was happening in the house.
all of a sudden paint started falling on their heads which scared jj and tanner even more than they originally were.
the guys who were yelling at lana about big john's compass and toby's necklace were the same guys who were shooting at the group.
once the guys left, john b ran inside to check on lana and jj followed while tanner ran back to the van to calm herself before she had a panic attack. the last time she had one was freshman year, after an incident with sarah cameron. the same incident that tanner is still mad at her for now.

everyone was back at the chateau and jj and john b were explaining what had happened to kie and pope. but jj being jj, was being a bit dramatic with his retelling.
"wait look at this." jj walked over to pope and started shaking his hair and paints started falling out but kie mistook it for dandruff.
tanner did the same. "it's paint, kie." kiara nodded.
"so you saw the guys that shot at us?" pope asked and jj agreed. "did you get a good description? anything that can help us at all?"
"burly." jj said. "ugly." everyone looked at tanner unamused.
jj started talking about the guys being square groupers and being under duress but all tanner could think about was how hot jj looked as he hit his pen. focus.
john b flicked open his compass and tanner started messing with the necklace she put around her neck as everyone started talking about them.
"the office." "jim and pam." tanner smiled.
john b ignored her and started walking into the chateau and towards his dads office. he started talking about how his dad always kept it locked because he was paranoid that competitors would steal his research.
"we used to laugh at him all the time about it." tanner said sadly and john b nodded.
john b opened the office and they all walked in and john b grabbed a board and started talking about the previous owners of the compass and how they died.
"banana truck? was it a truck full of bananas or was it shaped like a banana?" john b shrugged his shoulders at tanners questions.
"great you have a death compass, does tanner have a death necklace?" tanner shrugged her shoulders and jj nodded.
john b started talking about the compass having a secret compartment only to find something carved into the compass.
"redfield?"
"maybe it's a clue."
the roaster started crowing and pope was getting annoyed. kie spoke up. "me, tanner, and jj love the rooster.and surprisingly so does tigger."
"no, tigger loves the idea of eating the rooster." tanner said.
they all found out that the burly guys found out a out he chateau and that tanner and john b had the necklace and compass and showed up looking for them.
the pogues all rushed out the window and into the chicken coop with tigger after tanner made the stupid decision to run out there and grab him after the guys entered the house.
the rooster wouldn't shut up so jj sadly snapped his neck. and since it was dead tanner had to keep tigger from trying to eat it.
