August 4th

As I sat on the Hogwarts Express gazing out the window, Renegades by X Ambassadors ringing through my earbuds, I watch as the rain beats down on the emerald green trees. I can't help but wonder what advice my father would've given me before I boarded the train earlier today.

My father was a death eater, working for Voldemort, until he was fatally killed by him when I was only nine years old. I kept reminiscing on the good memories I had of him and my mother together. My father was a good man.. Yes, he was a death eater, there couldn't have possibly been any good inside of him - but there was. My father wanted to do good in the wizarding world. He wanted to do so much good that it would've completely overshadowed all the horrible things he had done while working for Voldemort. Unfortunately, he never got the chance to prove just how good he could be..

I sit alone in a private compartment when I notice a tall shadow appear right outside the sliding door. I hear a soft knock and nervously allow whoever is stalking outside to make themselves known.

"Enter."

As the sliding door opens, I see two boys dressed in Slytherin robes looming over me. They enter and sit down on the bench across from me. The first boy was rather tall, with blonde, almost white, hair. He had a set of snake rings on his right middle and ring fingers - that was the first thing I noticed about him. He smelled like green apples and woody cologne. The other boy was almost the same height as the other, but he had curly, chocolate brown hair and smelled like vanilla and marijuana smoke.

The brunette boy forced his hand out in front of him to promptly greeted me. "Matthew Riddle. However, you can call me Mattheo."

I politely remove my hand from my flannel jacket pocket and shake his hand slightly. The other boy, eyes glossed over, examined my body like he was performing an autopsy as I shook Mattheo's hand. I pulled down my skirt, rubbed my hands down my black tights and situated myself into a more comfortable position. Mattheo shifted in his seat and waited for his friend to introduce himself.

"Oh uhm.. I'm Malfoy. Draco Malfoy." He slowly stuck his hand out in front of himself. I admired his rings once again and accepted his greeting.

"Nice snake," I said to Draco. He quickly made eye contact with me, shifting his gaze from my legs to my eyes.

"What?" He questioned. Mattheo chuckled under his breath.

"Your rings. I've never seen ones like them before," I replied.

"Oh, thanks." Mattheo and Draco passed a quick glance to one another then focused their gazes elsewhere.

"And what might be your name, love?" Mattheo questions.

I hesitated at first, but these two are only the first of many people I've met so, why not be friendly?

What could possibly go wrong in introducing myself to them?

"I'm Eden. Eden Haynes."

Draco, still focused on the rain outside, swallows hard while Mattheo moves from his side over to mine to sit a little too close to me.

"You have a beautiful name, Eden." I look up from the floor to meet his eyes with mine. "I can only hope that the three of us will become great friends soon," Mattheo replies intrusively.

I flash a brief, nervous smile his way and I could only think to myself, "This is going to be an interesting first year.."

Mattheo asked Draco if he'd like to go find their friend Blaise since we would shortly be arriving at Hogwarts. They left my private compartment and disappeared into the dark hallway of the train. As I sat there alone once again, I felt the heat begin to rise up to my cheeks.

Those Slytherin boys.. They're truly a sight if I've ever seen such handsome boys before. Their scents were invading my mind and clogging up my thoughts and all I could think about was..

Oh snap out of it, Eden.

You can't do this. You don't need boys. You need power. That's why you're here. You're going to prove just how amazing you can be, because your father never got his chance. Be strong, and focus. Be a good doer.

I quickly change into my un-assigned house robes and caught a glimpse of the castle lights at Hogwarts outside the window.

I take a deep breath and whisper to myself "we have arrived."
