EZEKIEL

(Age Thirteen)

"Lorelei, please," Cyrus whined to our nanny/cook/cleaner. "Just one lollipop."

With her blonde hair and sparkling grey eyes and her simple attire of a t-shirt and a pair of shorts, she looked exactly her age, just nineteen. Lorelei was a tough woman. Sweet, polite but firm on her decisions. "No, Cyrus. You are eating too many lollipops these days. No more,"

A year back when Dad was searching for a nanny for us, she showed up on our doorsteps, on the verge of being homeless and in a desperate need of a job.

Dad was a bit reluctant because of her age but eventually took pity on her when she refused to leave our doorsteps until he gave her the job. Dad ended up being so impressed with her within six months that he told her not to worry about her college fees as he would take care of them.

Now she is just like a part of our family.

"She's right, Cyrus." Dad entered the kitchen where we were seated on the barstools. His suit jacket draped across his forearm, his tie undone and his hair still messy. Late as always.

Dad and Mom had me when they were just eighteen which means Dad was just thirty-one now but due to all the stress and workload, he has some streaks of grey in his dark hair. But he still looked young and handsome with his sharp jawline which was adorned with a stubble and his striking hazelnut eyes.

We were in a much better condition as compared to how we were three years back, Dad's company flourished and it earned him millions but he still works hard every day.

But even being a millionaire couldn't teach him how to do his tie. He refused to wear any until Lorelei pointed out and asked him why, when he told her the reason, she offered to do his tie. Every day.

Just like today, as he bent down a little to make it easier for her as she did his tie perfectly. Dad's eyes focused on her intensely.

When she was done, she patted him lightly on his chest and stepped back. "Done."

He blinked quickly as if coming out of a daze and cleared his throat, averting his eyes. "Right. Thanks."

Hmm. Interesting.

He ran his fingers through his hair, combing it and grabbed a sandwich from the table and kissed Cyrus and me on our foreheads before bidding us goodbye and leaving.

"Your dad might be the only person working on a Sunday." Lorelei rolled her eyes. "You both should tell him to take some break and rest, he is not a machine." She sounded worried.

"Yeah, he promised to go on a picnic with us today," Cyrus complained as he buttered his toast.

"If he had not worked hard all these years, we wouldn't be sitting in this huge ass house right now."

Cyrus pouted. "Still..."

Sometimes looking at Cyrus reminded me of Mom because he is an exact photocopy of her with his blond hair and electric blue eyes while I am like the younger version of Dad.
