Chapter 5: My Mate

I was making out with Zara in the restricted section, as no one ever comes in here and I'm the Alpha King's son, so I have access, and I'm about to sink into her when Spirit stopped me. He made me go outside where we caught the mouthwatering scent we have been trying to follow all week. It was at the store, the diner, and a few other enclosed spaces, and for some reason, it was really strong on the wind today, so I could follow it, and follow it, I did.

As soon as I saw her standing there, her hair looked like it was on fire as the wind blew it around her, I knew she was what I was looking for, that she was mine. It was an image my brian flashed in my head but her hair was shorter, and she looked younger. Weird! So with a growl, we stalk up to her to claim her as ours.

Spirit and I were so fucking excited that our mate was finally here! He was at the surface, driving us as we pinned her to the wall after scenting her arousal and pressing our hardness against her. He wanted her to know we would be more than capable of satisfying her, then we leaned in to take in the scent that's been driving us crazy all week, getting our fill and having a taste of the forest after a storm, with hints of lavender and magic.

It was confusing because it's similar to Zye's. In fact, it's exactly the same, he smells of these things to me, but not in the sense that he's my mate, and when I reach the spot I would mark her, I bit gently and she moans again, making everything about her become stronger, that I can't hold Spirit back.

"Mine," He growls, and we slam our lips to hers. My hands have a mind of their own, as they push her top aside to make contact with her skin, which is so soft and sends sparks through me. Her body was perfect and I couldn't help but pull her into me more.

Fuck me, every moan that leaves her lips almost has me cumming in my damn shorts! Spirit pushes forward, readying to mark her, but all of a sudden, with the next moan, it's not just the smell of her arousal that hits me, it's the scent of a dragon. I pull back like I've just been burnt and cursed.

"Fuck!" She stands there watching me pace, and mutter under my breath.

"I can't believe this fucking shit!... Me! Having a dragon for a true mate… No. There has to be a mistake." I look up at her and fuck me, nothing has changed, I want her more than anything. Damn it!

"I hate that I want you! Why couldn't you just be a wolf? Damn it! Why did you have to be a dragon!" I'm so angry. She looks at me like I have two heads as she asks what I'm on about. Thinking that maybe she was one of those dragons, the ones that have wolf friends so don't really know about the feud my dad drilled into me, making me hate them. At least that's what he thinks and I have to pretend. So I tell her, and she asks why!? Why!? I'm about to tell her when I remember she's a dragon and I'm not telling her shit!

I can't be with her, how does she not know any of this stuff anyway. She seems ignorant about everything if she's asking why. Then she goes on to tell me to reject her! If fucking only.

"Don't think shit you don't mean, Kaiden! I wouldn't allow it anyway." Spirit growls.

"Shut it!" I snap back. It's not a real-life option anyway, that shit is for books and fairy tales! Nothing can change that she's mine, but I don't have to mate and be with her. I can stay with Zye.

Then she makes out she doesn't know about mates with the whole time and date thing, and she still can't get over the fact we're enemies. So I tell her my birthday, date and time, which will be the exact same as hers. Then I tell her it doesn't matter about not knowing each other because it is what it is. She's a fucking dragon! And I'm a wolf!
