A/N: Almost three weeks late...! Man I have really got to get better at keeping this schedule. I mean it's only been a month!
A bit of a shorter chapter, isn't it? In all honesty, I wrote almost the entirety of this chapter today (or I guess yesterday). I got a bit lazy towards the end, can you tell? 😅 I also did most of the start after finishing the whole main part of the chapter, so if that feels rushed or a little weird, that's probably why. It's one AM, people. I'm running on fumes here.
On another note, I finally applied for College two days ago. Yay! Was supposed to do it in May but there were... complications. Either way,.I really hope I get accepted into the course TvT
Anyway, enough about me. Enjoy this very late (Sorry!) chapter! °< °
After unwillingly being forced to stick around and watch the fifth match by Himari the second I'd finished my match, as well as watching Kaminari and Ashido get absolutely desomated by the Principal, I retreated outside to get some fresh air. After walking for a bit, it didn't take long before I'd found a huge tree that looked to be roughly seventy feet tall. A smile adorned my features, and I eagerly climbed onto a branch about fifteen feet high, settling down against the log, one leg swinging whilst the other laid against the rough bark. It was nice, being alone and at peace. And honestly, it was all I ever wanted most of the time. Of course, being alone and at peace means with Himari. When she decides she wants to hang by a tree, anyway, instead of on it.
I sat there for some time, eyes closed. The fresh, cool breeze was refreshing and something I knew I'd never get tired of. Cool things, especially cold things, we're nice. I knew that had something to do with my quirk - more or less - but I also believed some of my interests and likes were influenced by my mother. With a few influenced by her absence, as well.
"If you're not careful, you could fall off and hurt yourself." A voice says suddenly, appearing from nowhere. Literally.
Opening one of my eyes, I gaze down, surprisingly unsurprised upon seeing the red and white haired boy. Resting my arm on my knee, a relatively calm, content, peaceful expression dawns on my features. "Doubtful. I've been climbing trees since I was fourteen."
I raise a brow at the boy. "What are you doing out here?" I ask curiously.
"I needed some fresh air." Todoroki says blankly.
"Ain't that the truth." I mumble, a quiet, humourous huff escaping me prior.
"Why are you on the tree?" He asks.
I shrug. My tone shifts from calm to teasing as the last sentence leaves my mouth. "I like climbing trees. People don't usually spot me when I'm up here."
"Sorry." He apologises quickly.
I shake my head. "You're good."
A silence falls, and it's now I realise neither one of us are particularly good at coming up with conversation topics that last longer than five minutes. Guess that's something I'll have to work on overtime. As I rack my brain for a decent topic to fill the silence, which ironically enough I strongly dislike at the moment, an idea comes to mind.
"You wanna come up here?" I ask, a slight grin tugging at my lips.
I notice Todoroki's eyes widen only a smidge, the slight shock and surprise overtake his casual and unbothered expression. He glances between the tree, specifically the branch I'm sat upon, and me a few times.
"I don't think the tree's strong enough to hold the both of us." He deducts, glancing up at me with skepticism in his eyes.
"Want to test that theory?" I urge. I'm a little surprised at myself here. When did I grow to like teasing him? Himari must be rubbing off on me. It's been nearly thirteen years, it was bound to happen eventually.
